The selectivity of differential pro- tectors may be considerably improved by including ad- ditional resistors in the relay circuit. Studies . concerning the influence of additional resistors, con- nected to relay circuits, on the selectivity of dif- ferential protectors were conducted at the Laboratoriya imeni A.A. Smurova (Laboratory imeni A.A. Smurov) in Card 1/4 Leningrad in 1933/34 by V.I. Ivanov and P.I. Ryzhov. SOV/143-59-5=V19 Increasing the Selectivity of Differential Generator Frott6tion-._- by Connecting Additional Resistors In 1945, it was suggested to introduce linear induct- ive reactances of 5-10 ohms for limiting the higher harmonics of the unbalance current. Presently, ad- ditional resistances are not included in differential protection,, . -However, investigations conducted by the Kafedra elektricheskikh stantsiy-,' setey i sistem Tom- skogo politekhnicheskogo instituta (Chair of Power Plants, Networks and Distribution Systems of the TOMBk Polytechnic Institute) show the suitability of con- necting such resistances to the relay circuits. Up to the present time, the problem of the influence of ad- ditional resistances, having different properties, on the magnitude of.the transient unbalance current was not covered in literature. Consequently, there are no recommendations concerning-the most advantag- eous magnitudes aiVd-properties of additional resist- ances in relay circuits. The authors present a formu- la of the transient current of the unbalance in a Card 2/4 differential generator protection circuit with circulat SOV/143-59-5-2/19 Increasing the Selectivity of Differential Generator Protection by Connecting Additional Resistors to the ReUy CiTcuit ing currents. The mathematical expression for the unbalance current was obtained under the following assumptions: 1) All resistances of protector ele- ments were considered as being independent of the cur- rent flowing thru them;.i2) losses in steel were not considered; 3) the periodic component of the short circuit current was considered as being undamped; 4) the load current was equal to zero. Investigations showed that the unbalance current attains its great- est magnitude at 0-- 0, and rises with an increase of the time constant Ti and a decrease of T The time constant T,iattains 0.15-0.2 seconds witR*external short circ ts. The time constant T is reduced to about 0.1 second during short circuits when using for the differential protection class D current transformer. For confirming the theoretical assumption, ~xperiment- al curves were plotted showing the dependency of the maximum unbalance current magnitude from the function Card 3/4 zP* These curves are shown in Figure 3. For the V/ BOV/143-59-5-2/19 Increasing the Selectivity of Differential Generator -Protection by Connecting Additional Resistors to "the RelayCircuit experimental investigation, laboratory current trans- formers with toroidal cores manufactured of sheen were used. The core cross section was q = 20 cm with an average line of force 1 = 45.6,cm. Based on the theoretical and experimentaR investigations the authors conclude that additional resistances should be includ- ed in the relay circuits of differential generator pro- tection . Two seisnic pro- files were run, totalling 140 to 150 km. The KYSPV method was mostly used, although some.work was done by the MOV and even RNP methods. The profiling was continuous when using the KMPV method. The wave reflected from the basement top was traced through the ' entire lengths of the profiles, since this basement was the main object of investiga- tion. It was recorded as first "kicks" at distances of"9 to 35 km from the primary I wave. Its apparent velocity varied between 5800 and 6300 m/sec. Its coofficient of i dampening was 1.7-10-5 1/M. The superimposing traces lacked a parallelism. This wave, was identical with the refracted one. In the western part of the area, some reflec- 1 UDC: 550.834 Card 1/2 ACC _NR: AR6022473 Itions were obtained from caps of salt domes as well as from the Underlying salt-bear- ing basement drops, 2700-3000 m down to 4500 m from west to center. The second pro- Ifile shows the basement's drop from 4500 down to 8500 m over a distance of 30 to 40 kim :between the borehole No. 1 at Verkhovo on the north and Tormosino on the south. A map of the Precambrian basement was prepared as the result of this work. Recommendations lare offered for further investigations. G. The greaterl ;part of the article is a detailed description of work along each of :these profiles. The objectives were tracing the surface of the base- !ment and the underlying sedimentary deposits of the Mesozoic; wherover 1possible discontinuities in the sedimcntar-r strata also wore traced. iA wide variety of methods wore combined: the refracted waves method, lelcetrical exploration racthods (magnetotelluric profiling and sounding and telluric currents methods), as woll as gravimetric and magnotometer vork. The results are incorporated in Fig, 1, a map of relief of the ibasement and distribution of local uplifts in the sedimentary strata, iand in Fiprcs 2 and 3. which are detailed geophysical cross sections -tive.;In detecting areas Jalong different profiles. Investigations showed that the unbalance current attains its great- est magnitude at CL= 0, and rises with an increase of the time constant T 1 and a decrease of T The time constant T attains 0.15-0.2 seconds witR*external short cireLts. The time constant T is reduced to about 0.1 second during short circui?s when using for the differential javtection class D current transformer. For confirming the theoretical assumption, experiment- al curves were plotted showing the dependency of the maximum unbalance current magnitude from the function Card 3/4 zp . These curves are shown in Figure 3. For the Z SOV/143-59-5-2/19 Increasing the Selectivity of Differential Generator -Protection by Connecting Additional Resistors to "the RelayCircuit AS90CIATION: SUHUMD: experimental investigation, laboratory current trans- formers with toroidal cores manufactured of sheen were used. The core cross section was q = 20 cm with an average line of force 1= 45.6 cm. Based on the theoretical and experimental investigations the authors conclude that additional resistances should be includ- ed in the relay circuits of differential generator pro- tection . A structural map of the Araks tectonic zone, compiled by Sh. A. Azizbekov and A. E. Plate-shaped samples were cleaved from a large monocrystalline GaSe ingot. The dependence of brightness on pulse amplitude, repetition frequency, and pulse width was measured at 77K. Experimental data show that the brightness increases proportionally to the pulse width. At short pulse widths and sufficiently large values of the repetition frequency the number of injected current carriers is lower and, therefore, the number of radiative recom- binations decreases. At longer pulse widths the number of injected current carriers increases and, therefore, the brightness increases. The frequency dependence of brightness at pulsed excitationdiffers from that at sinusoidal excitation. The emission spectra at pulsed and dc and sinusoidal excitation are identical.- Orig. art. has: 3 figures. SUB CODE; 201 SUBM DATE: 07Sep66/ ORIG REF: 003/ ATD PRESS:. 5101 Card 1/1. 1 -, . Experiments were made on single crystal plates of p-GaSe having charge carrier concen- ,trations of the order of 10 lb cm-3. With a field strength of 4-103 v/cm, the entire crystal lxzziinesces. Monochromator measurements show that the emission spectrum ex- ~Tcnds f-ro-m 0.585 to I p. One peak was found between 0.61 and 0.65 )j-, another appears at 0.875. The amission spectrum is cut off rather sharply at the short wave end, at a point corresponding to the forbidden zone of GaSe. Sometimes a shortwave peak was seen a-, 0.592 U. Except when associated with interzone recombination, this peak is ~;due to electrons passing from the conductivity zone to centers 0.08 to 0.2 ev from the iceiling of the valence zone.
