SOV/25-59-9-13/49 ,O(1) AUTHOR: Baylov, Dimitr, Professor TITLE: Bulgarian Tobacco PERIODICAL: Nauka i zhizn', 1959, Nr 9, pp 35 - 36 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The author reports on the development of the tobacco industry in Bulgaria. In the post war period, the experimental station was changed into a scientific research institute. Three experimental stations, two faculties at higher educational institutions, two schools and some experimental bases for tobacco-growing have been established. The average 1959 output of to- bacco is supposed to be 130,000 tons compared to 43,000 in the 1939-44 period. During the.past years, Bulga- rian scientists, including the author of this article, Card 1/2 developed new highly-productive strains of tobacco. Bulgarian Tobacco SOV/25-59-9-13/49 The yield of these strains surpasses the former by 25%. Two machines have been designed for stringing the tobacco leaves which will increase the working efficiency by 2.5 times. There is*l drawing and 2 photographs. In the latter case the following theorem is proved, which 'gives 8ufficient-condition8 for the solution of the problem posed. If the matrix of the system (1~ has the form: all 0. 0 0 P& a21 a22 0 0 . . . 0 a31 '32 a33 0 0 A anj an2 an3 r a, where aij are distinct real numbers, then the travel from an arbitrary point of an n-dimensional phase-space to the manifold x' - 0 is always possible in a min i imum time without switohing (provided, of course; there is an admissible direc tion leading the phase point to the required manifold). If the manifold is giv- en by the equation i ai x 0 Card 2/3 + an+l S/044/6Z/000/009/060/069 On a high-speed problem without switching for .... AO6O/AOOO then the problem reduces to the preceding one by a linear transformation of the variables. The second part of the.-paper is devoted to the problem, unrelated ,to the former one, of applying the general principles of mechanics to the set- ting up of the equatio6s of motion of unholonomic sXstems. If upon a mechanical system of n material points, whose-position is defined by the coordinates xl, x2, ... I x3n one imposes one aonstraint of the form - f -(t., Xis Xio ..., xicr) 0; 1 m 1, 2P 3n". which may be Integrated once, then the.equatIons of motion will be the same re- gardless of whether one uses the given constraint oV the constraint obtained af- ter integrating it In setting.up these equations.
