ABSTRACT: The destruction of intestinal
bacteria In different fluids of the alimentary canal (primarily in the
gastric fluid of achlorhydric patients and in the intestinal fluid of
healthy and achlorhydric patients) has been studied under acid conditions
(pH 2). It has been determined that all of the E. coli strains fre3hly
isolated from pathological procea3es show a COn3iderable resistance to the
bactericidal effect of the acid, in achlorhydric gastric fluids. This re313t-
ance 13 lost after serial culture P853ag03 " returns only after inoculation
into animals. Only a fraction (about one-half to one-third) of the freshly
'Isolated Shigella, Klebsiolla and Proteus strains possessed resistance similar
'to that of N. coli, The Salmonena strains examinedo however, became do-

Abstract: An arsenometric method of oxalate ion doternination

amputation was applied. and the limb sutured to the abdominal wall to prevent

series, E ( 5 rats aged 12 days), amputation was carried out 2 mm. above the
CO-N-T.-
distal growing centre of the femur according to Lacroix. In 3, t1tere was no chon-
drogenesis at all. in I slight chondeogenesis and in I chondrogenesis as describq'-~4
by Lacroix. The conclusion is reached that chondrogenesis at the end of the anipu-
tation stump of the leg is due to external factors, such as pressure. In gi-tiul) U.

ABSTRACT: The authors investigated the effect of Cu. Fe, Mn,and Zn on the
properties, of AL9 alloy. After quenching from SA50C and aging
at 1600 ab does not change with an increase in the Cu content
from 0.08 to 0.845o; the hardness increases insignificantly; 6
decreases from 5 to 21/6 upon an 0.08 to 0.35% increase in Cu con-
tent, but does not change thereafter. The mechanical Properties
of the specimens in the cast state are virtually identical with
those obtaining after quenching. An increase in Fe coutent >
0.65% brings about a sharp decrease in 6 and (Tb which phenom-
enon is explained by the separation of Fe silicide. Mn cot ent up

ABSTRACT: The stability of an accelerated charged beam i& analyzed in a chaber of
rectangular cross section. By means of a method developed in an earlier paper (Atom-
nays energiya, Y. 19p 126p 2,965) it is shown that it the midplane of the beam coincide
with the midplAne of the chamber and the beam width is much larger than its thickness
the nonequilibrium charge density occurring under the influence of the beamis owr
field can be readi4 determined in terms of the chargep masep and linear density of
the particles and the parameters of the chamber. This makes it possible to obtain an
equation for the longitudinal component of the electric field and the conditions undo
which instability sets in. The equations show that the higher-moment, oscillations
become significant if the beam thickness is comparable with the height of the chamber
and their influence increases alAo on approaching nonlinear resonance. Consequently
the higher-moment oscillations can become dangerous in strong focusing systemse The

ABSTRACT3 Raple and birch troes of the South Urals wero observed In the
area of the town of Isha in the Chelyabinsk Oblast' with
respect to their sap flow. Similar conditions were found in
the adjacent Gafuriy region of the Bashkir ASSR. The flow
started between 22 March and 5 Alril on the south slopes
when there was still deep snow. It ended between 24 April
and 7 May.* On the north slopes it began between 4 and 17
.
April and ended between 29 April and 12 Uay. The period of
flow was 33 days on the south and 25 days on the north slopes.
