The child died on the 4th day of life. 'I'he clinical
diagnosis made was thrombosis
of the renal veins; post-mortem txa~mination confirmed this
diagnosis. It is thought
that this type of thrombossis is caused by histaminic
substances which affect the

The sphere of activity of Public Health instituti;-ns is not
therapeutic but prophy-
lactic. Dentists are largely responsible for the unsatisfactory
relations between
Public Health work and dentistry, mainly because dentistry-as a
special branch of
medical science-was either unable or neglectful t!i create a
methodical and efficacious
system of prevention of disease f teeth and the oral cavity.
The significance of
dentistry within the domains of Public Health is considerably
increased by the fact
that it deals with the r~.ost common and widespread ailment,
i.e. dental caries.
The Hungarian Public Health Service recognized the significance
of dentistry by
introduc~-nC the institution of School Dentistry i.e. free
dental clinics in schools,
mostly in larger cities as yet. For the country population and
among tile industrial
and farm-workers, who live far from large cities, there exists
a general hygienic
problem; the condition of the teeth and oral cavity, which are
in close connection
-kith general prevention of various diseases. Outlines ~f the
tasks of stomatology
are as follows: (1) Professional education; (2) public health
probler.8; (3) scientific
works in dentistry; (4) s,-~~cial and ec--nomic problems of
dentists; (5) publicity;
(6) organization. Number (2) includes three groups: (1)
Prophylaxis for children
under two years of age; (2) prevention frcm the age of two
years on; (3) dental care.

Abstract: For the determir-ation. of the content of iodine In
air by
the iodometric. nethod at the concentrations of iodine
of about 0.4 X per cub.n, it is necessary to take a
sample of air 'of 1 to 10 cub.m., which requires several
hours. A rapid method of determination of the content
of iodine in air ia proposed. This method is based on
the application of the ceriur.1- catalytic nothod (deacribed
by Sandell and Kolthoff), which makes it possible to reduce

50 to 200 liter of the air under investigatioa is passed
at the rate of 4 liter per inin. through a pipe with a
glass filter filled with 10 ml of an absorbing solution.,
after which the solution is sucked off into a receiver.
5 ml of 2.4 n Hol and 3.6 ml of the solution to be tested
are placed into each of two test tubes and the rixture
is adjusted to pH = 7 to 8 with 3-% solutions of Ila 8803
ill 3.3 N NaOH. Na2SO3 is deconposed with 1 ml of 7.
N H2SO4 cuid SO is ellrdmted by blowing iodine-free air
through it- ;21e~ 1 ml'of 7-0 N ff2S04 and about o.4% of
142~0 are introduced into each test tube. Having added
