This treatment resulted in an average strengtheni.?g of 20% and 3 satisfactor y plasticity level. Three separate heats of steel were heat treated. The compositions ranged as follows: C-0.16-0.19%; Mn--o.46-0.52%; SI-0.06-0.12%; S-- 0.036-0.042%; Ps--0.012-0.034% and Cu--0.050-0.058%. 7be details of the process were described. The steel plates were heated In a roller type furnace to temperature for a holding time of 1.5 min/mm. Cooling was done in a qiench press with a water flow UDC: 621.76 -C~v ACC NR: AP50270,12 rate of 1700 m3/hr. After quenching, somm! warpage could be noted. particularly in thicknesses up to 20 am. Mechanical properties of the heat treated plate in flat and round specimens were determined. Yield strength, ultimate strength, % elongation, % reduction in area zind impact resistance wore tabulated for heat 1 (12 m thick), heat 11 (12 and 25 mm thick) and heat 111 (25 m thick). Frequency curves were plotted for the mechanical properties of the heat treated plate (frequency of occurrence as a function of strength, ductility and impact resistance) and average values were given for these properties. The effect of tempering after quenching was also noted. In general, the strength decreased slightly inid the ductility increased. Tempering had little effect on impact resistance. Ricnmtruciures showed that the structures after quenching were predominantly pearlitic-ferritic, with needle-like ferrite distributed along grain boundaries for the 12 m thic): plates while in the 25 mm thick plates there was smaller grained, needle-like ferrite. The highest strengths and lowest duc- tility were obtained in tho 12 mm plate. However, the mechanical properties obtained never fell below the following levels for the heat treated condition: yield stress-- 30 kg/mm2, %atimate strength--44 kg/Vn2, % elongation--16, and impact strength (at -400C)--3 kgm/cm2. It was recommended that low carbon steel, plate, strengthened by the above treatment, be used in place of low alloyed steel. To b effective the epti- mum carbon content for heat treatment should be 0.12-0.18%. Orig. art. has: 3 figures 2 tables. Gosenergoizdat, 1957, pp, 145-181 ABSTRACT: Projects are described of the Vsesoyuznyy nauchno-iseledovatel'skiy institut metrologii (All-Union Scientific -Research Metrology Institute) imeni D. 1. Mendeleyev on standardization of measures in the ionizing -radiation field, and on the construction of standard and reference outfits for reproducing the fundamental units in the whole range of energies and intensities of radiations of all types. The following outfits are described: (1) a standard reproducing Card 1/3 SOV/112-59-3-5251 Metrology of Penetrating Radiations the roentgen in the range of 40-300 Kev; (2) a reference outfit for measuring in roentgens of electromagnetic -radiation doses having the quantum energy of 300-1,500 Kev; (3) an outfit for measuring in roentgens the electromagnetic- radiation doses with quantum energy of 3-20 Kev with an error of 1%; (4) two standard outfits for measuring radium gamma -equivalents; (5) differential lead-ball gamma -calorimeters for measuring the activity of various prepara- tions on the basis of their gamma radiation; (6) an isothermal calorimeter operating on the principle of liquid-nitrogen evaporation for measuring the activity of beta preparations. (7) a differential alpha -calorimeter for measuring the activity of radium preparations. An activity -measurement method by counting the number of particles emitted by a preparation is being developed in two directions: counting of particles in a definite solid angle and the same in the total solid angle by means of "41r-counters. " The beta-particle counter within a definite angle permits measuring preparations with an activity of 10 -8 _ 10 -5 curie with an error of 4-6%. Two alternate designs of "4Tr- Card 2/3 SOV. / 112-59 -3-5251 Metrology of Penetrating Radiations counters" are described. One of them permits measuring beta preparations with an activity of 10 - 10 -5 x 10 -8 curie with an error of 2 -4%. and the second, 5 x 10 - 11 -5 x 10 -7 curie with an error of 1- 3%. The outfits have been built for measuring neutron streams from 108 down to a few tens of neutrons per sec. A gamma -spectrometer "Elotron" with an improved focusing has been built for investigation of gamma spectra = the energy range of 600-3,000 Kev. To conduct investigations in the range of 120 - 1, 300 Kev, a 2-meter long crystal- diffraction gamma --spectrometer of the Dumond spectrometer type has been built. Also, a magnetic spectrometer analyzing photoelectrons has been built for the range of 200-700 Kev. Measuring the half-life from a few hours to a few years is made by two methods: the method of successive measurements of gamma -equivalent preparations and the differential -chamber method. The. results of half-life measurements for a number of isotopes are tabulated. N.G. Z. Card 3/3 . K.K.; )WWII, Z.P. It was found that the succession of the deprvssion of different unconditioned reflexes corresponds to their emergence in ontogenesis ThosL of the conditioned reactions which have beee'. '.ormed in early childhood are well stabilized, simple in their functional structure and most closely connected with the unconditioned activity; they remain the longest and are the first to be restored. This applies both to direct conditioned reactions and to all kinds of verbal activity. Each of the states so studied, along with the common regularities, is characterized by its specific features, In cases of insulin hypoglycaemia, a rapid development of transt-narginal inhibition is observed as well as an inertia of nervous processes and their Intense irradiation. In post-coinatose and post- paroxysmal conditions, complex forms of nervous activity are completely inhibited, while elementary cortical reactions proceed undisturbed. BAWBOV, L. Evolyutslya funktsiy, M.-L., Nauke, 1964, 186-197 ITOPIC TAGS: brain, conditioned reflex, cblorpromazine, nervous system 1drug, drug effects behavior pattern ABSTRACT: Cortex activity change induced by inhibition or intensifioa- tion of the nonspecific system function of the brain stem or thalamus with the administration of adrenalin (subcutaneously 0.75 to 1 ml of a 1:1000 solution), chlorpromezine (intravenously or intramuscularly 25 to 100 mg), or sodium amytal (intravenously 150 to 200 mg) was investigated in patients with'various psychic syndromes and also In oonvalescents. Conditioned reflexes were developed by preliminary verbal instructions, verbal reinforcement and also by defensive and kinestbetic reinforcement* Despite sharp changes of unconditioned reflexes under the a-ation of all the above drugs, the formation of new conditioned reflexes and the ACC NR. performance of earlier developed conditioned reflexes were possible; thus, the synapse function basically wasnot offected,'tbougb certain cortical activity changes were noted. It was demonstrated that irradiation of excitation along the cortex is determined by the state of the nonspecific systems of the thalamus and irradiation of excitation in the vegetative centers depends on the reticular formation of the brain stem. Preservation of discriminatory inhibition is determined by the interrelation of the reticular formation of the brain stem and the nonspecific systems of the thalamus (which is disturbed following sodium amytal administration)* The function of impressing traces of stimuli striking the cortex improves with intensification of reticular formation activity and deteriorates with its inhibition. Under the action of these preparations, motor reflexes also changed and certain changes of mood were observed. Bibliography of 21 titles. R, Pavlygina. fTranslation of abstrao!7. M. 35 TITLE: The Synthesis of the Marked Diethylamincethylester S of the Diphanyloxythioacetic Acid 35_ efirs. (Sintez mechenogo dietilamincetilovogo S difeniloksitioukausnoy kisloty) PERIODICAL.- Zhurnal Obahchey Khimii, 1956, Vol. 20, Nr 3p pp. 635-637 (USSR) ABSTRACT: For the investigation, of the physiologioal effect of cholinolithic preparations the synthesis of a marked active cholinolithic compound was necessary. As such, the authors selected the diethylaminoothylester 3 of diphenyl- oxythioacetic aoid (formula II)q which, as is known, is a considerably greater antagonist of acetylcholine than diethylaminoethylestor S of diphenylthicacetic acid 35 (tiphene), the synthesis of which with the marked atom 3 is described in publications (Ref 2). For the comparatively easy synthesis of aminothioester with radioactive sulfur Card 1/3 the authors used the method described in publications The Synthesis of the Marked Diethylaminosthylester S35 79-28 3-15/61 of the Diphenyloxythioacetic Acid (Ref 3) (see mentioned reaction process). As radioactive raw material BaSxO4 was used whiah contains the sulfur isotope 535. According to known examples (Ref 4) the BaSxO4 was reduced at 900-10000 in BaSx by hydrogen. BaBx converted to thiourea dn the action of cyanamide and bicarbonate of ammonium (see reaction process). The yield in thiourea (WH 2-CS-NH 2) was computed on the basis of BaSxO4, about 95 %. The synthesis of the neoeSBary diethylaminoethanethiol was realized by the reaction of thioureas witb diethyl-p-ohloroothylamine and by the subsequent alkaline hydrolysis of the obtained P-diethyl- aminoethylisothiourea (see reaction process), The yield of diethylaminoethanethiol, computed on the basis of thiourea, was 70 %. The reaction of aminomercaptane to the final product - aminothioester-took place in two steps according to the mentioned scheme 1. The intermediate product, the dieth laminoethylester S of diphenylehloro- thioacetio acid (I~ precipitated as hydrochloride in Card 2/3- crystalline state. The desired final product the diethyl- The Synthesis of the Marked Diethylaminoethylester S 35 79-28-3-15/61 6f the Diphenyloxythioacetic Acid aminoethyleeter B35 of diphenyloxythioacetio acid (II) was converted to hydrochloride, passing through the free base. The yield of this final product, when using small amounts of (1,5-2 g) BaSxO 4? was 20-22 %, computed on the basis of the radioactive raw material. The yield could be increased to 52 % with 8-10 g BaSxO 4' The synthesis proceeded in a simple apparatus and within shortest time. The coagulation at 2000 + 20 is eo,,,~,pleted when tannin is used in 6 hours, with othor drUgs it takos 12-15 hours. Incroase in p11 decreases the coagu.1ation effect, and at pH 8 conqulation 9 CZOCh, is practically zero. 2 Pigures, 5 Tables,, 10 I.-.1estern, I Polish reference. "Some Factors Influencing tile Accuracy of the DatermInation of Tannins in Vegetable Materials by Biological Methods." Bratislava, Biologia, Vol 21, Ho 7, 1966, pp 522 - 528 Abstract: The only materials of phen~,lie nature that normally so- comFany tannins in vegetable materials and coagulate human erythro- oytes are pyrogallol and pyrocatechol. The conglutination affect of these substances is rquch lower than that of tannin, so that their presence does not interfere with the determination of gallotannins in veget'able materials. lilie readiness of eryt-hrocytes. to react with tannins decreRses with tho period of their storage in refri- gerators. Stavropollsk* s.-kh. in-t, 1956, vyp. 4, 135-137 Abstract : Under conditions of the mountain zone of the Stavropol region) the occurence of a disease of lambs with pulmonary and gas- trOintestinal manifestations was observed. Both in the first and in the second type of sickness, retardation in growth and weight) defectiveness of fleece, dryness of skin, etc., were noticed. Inquiry into the causes of disease showed that in the pre-lambing perlod the owes were main- tained on poor natural pastures, and in the wintertime they were receiving insufficient amounts of hay, almost no sil- age or mineral supplements except NaCl, and no concentrates at all. Such management and feeding of roes led to the develop- Card 1/2 15 USSR/Diseaaes of Pbxm Animals. The lambs were born weak, pre- disposed to hypovitaminoois A, and even to avitaminosis, which was running a course acempanied with symptoms of pneumonia or enteroco3itio, or of both together.-- I.Ya.
