infection of the nuse and its sinuses is the most
important factor in the actiology
of rheumatic fever and its relapses. Tonsillites have
their origin'illost frequently
In infections of the nose which by the way of
bacteraemia lead to dissemination of
the causative organisms to the tonsils. The majority
of 100 patients showed signs
of rhinitis, enlargement of the cervical lymphatic
glands und radiological lesions
of the accessory sinuses of the nose. In several
cases. in which a high sedimedt-
ation rate still remained in spite of the treatment,
there was a persistent blockade
of maxillary sinuses. In one case rheumatic fever
appeared as a sequel of tonsil-
lectorny. in 4 cases the relapses persisted although
the children were submitted
before to tonsillectomy. Chronic infection of the
nose. which was ascertained
in those cases, had undoubtedly existed already
before. while after the tonsil-
lectomy it was still an aetiological factor of
rheumatic fever. In conclusions the
authors express the opinion. that the most important
factor in the campaign
against rheumatic fever is to be found in the
prophylaxis against the infections of
the nose and in the treatment of the inflammatory
state of sinuses.

TEXT: The authors e*xamine the-poesibility of,determining the
hydrocarbons
(HC)which are formed together with ailooholo when fatty acids are
hydrogenated.
A chromatographic method is described. '3-5 .9 pf the substance are
disoolved
in 15 ml hexene (I) (obtained-by dehydrating hexyl alcohol in*vapor
phase
over activated Al 0 ) and the solution is transferred to a column
500-600mm
2 3
long and 10-12 mm in diameter and filled with 25~-30 9 of ACII(ASK)
silica gel
(61-120 mash). The column is eluted with 10 ml f and then with
60-70 ml C2H 5OH. All the HC is contained in the first 20 ml of the
eluate.
This fraction ot the eluate is transferred to a,calibrated flask and
most
of the I is distilled off with a dephlegmator at-'a water-bath
temperature

TOPIC TAGS: alloy steel, structural steel, mechanical heat

ABSTRACT: In this 15 tudy the effect of production technology on the
properties of an alloyed~~,-Ni-Mo steel after thermo-mechanical
treatment
was determined. In all cases investigated there was an increase in
strength properties\~fter thermo-mechanical treatment and in some
cases
(mainly in melts with higher carbon contents) , there was also an
increase In
plasticity. The relative maximum rise in the ultimate strength for
given
carbon content was measured in melts smelted in the air, while the
relative
minimum value, was measured on melts smelted in vacuum from highly
pure raw
meterial. This finding was explained by the so-called dynamic
effects of
martensite plates.-on the boundaries of austenite grains. It is
most likely

that in melts smelted from highly pure material (low P and
S), a reinforce-
ment of the austenite grain boundaries takes place to a
certain extent and,
evidently, the possibility of defect formation on the
boundaries of
austenite grains under the impact effect of martensite plates
decreasea. In
these melts, the probability of relaxation of stresses caused
by the dynamic
effects of martensite plates on the austenite grain
boundaries was increased.
Further, it was shown that it is very difficult to clarify
the observed
