ABSTRACT: The idea. of inl'luencing thu frequency of a piezoelectric crystal by a
stationary electric field for the purp)se of standard--Lzation vas first diocpsned by
Vilbig (LehrInich der Hochfrequenztecbn:'6k II, Leipzig, 109, 1958). If nn 'attempt is
made to obsen,e a vibrating piezoelect:.-ic medium We, system of dipoles ( -4c
oscillators) during a qualitative deac:ription of this effect (and only In irut ap-
proximation), it is found that an ele:cl;ric. field polarizes this q,otem and deflects
the trajecto2j, of the oscillator someMiat from the original direction but j2eiljier
bends nor changes the directional forco of the oscillator. Kowevcr, since tho
resonance frequency of the oscillator 4:hangei (obviouisly due to the inflw2nco or
the interacti(.m between thei dipoles (I the system), Vie directiowil force k,, and
vith it the frequency must also change according to the equation

.The InfLuence of a magnetic field ov. a system of har-mmic oscillators iLq manifested
~in another way. Its itifluonce causes :aot only another type of interaction between
the oscillators (and thus IL pOG8iblG cAange in the material constants) but aLso a
change in the frequency of an osci3lat,)r which has been produced by the curvature of
-its trajectory. The author studies tht influence of a magnetic field on the fra-
.quency of piezoelectric crystals in tht above sense. Orig. art. has: 3 figuras and:;

TITLE: On the Sensitivity and Regression of Silver Bromo
Iodide Nuclear Emulsions
PERIODICAL: 6eskoslovensky 6asopis Pro '~ysiku., 19!;q, Nr 2,
PP 133-140 (+ I plate)
ABSTRACT: The maximum possible addition of AgI to AgBr at 2!i OC Is
29 mol%. Large additions of AgI are unwanted for
nuclear emulsions because they reduce the sensitivity
(Ref 6). The analysis of Ilford G,5 and Agfa Kc nuclear
emulsions shows (Ref 7) that -they contain small amounts
of AgI. Besides sensitivity, the stability of tlie latent
image is an important conside:7ation for nuclear emulsions,
The exact mechanism of regression Is not; well understood
because many factors influence it. Several explanations
have been put forward (Refs 8-13). No lirevious authors
have studied regression as a function of' the contonts of
iodide. The emulsions used for our exporiments were
prepared by a method described by the a,.tthors (Ref 110.
The emulsions cortained 2.8 mol% of Cd ;-.nd between 0 and
8 mol% AgI. The sensitivity of the erm.t1sions was tested

measuroment was :7opeated at least twice (see also Ref 11+).
The dependence oT the sensitivity to vi.,.ibla light on
the concentration of AgI is shown in Fij; 1. Curve I
shows "he sensitIvity of a non-sensitis(id emulsion, while
Curve 2 shows that of a sensitised emulsion. The
sensitivity incroases with increasing concentration of
AgI to 3 mol%, tlen decreases up to 5j riol%,, and after-
wards :increases again. From, 4 Mol%, y decreasest which
shows an increas3 in grain size from th:.s concentratton
of AgI upwards. The same conclusion regarding grain size
was reached from measurements with a-particles. The
sensitivity to electrons is an entirely differ,~nt functicn
of the concentration of AgI (Fig 2). Up to 3 laol%' the
sensitivity is constant, it decreases soriewhat to 6+ Mol%:
and then again remains constant. For a-partic-les, the
sensitivity increases up to ':, mol% while a further
increase is disadvantageous because of the increased grain
size. Regression was generally slowed down by the
addition of AgI. Emulsions containing *L or 3 mol"6 AgI
behaved, from the point of v-Lew of regression, id.ontically.
The regression for visible light is relatively slow.
CZECH/37-59-2-3/20
On the Sensitivity and Regression of Silver Bromo Iodide Nuclear
Emulsions
A regression coofficient of 50 was achieved in a:a AgBr
emulsion after 1.6 days, in an AgBr and AgI emulsion after
21+ days. The regression for visible light was studied at
18 OC for 65 days. Fig 3 shows the regression Sor an
emulsion containing 1 moljc~ AgI. Sensitised emul,;ions
show more regression of the Latent image produced by
visible light than non-sensitised emulsions. However,
this apparently varies from 3ensitizer to sensitizer
(Refs 10, 17). The regression for electrons Is shown in
Fig 4a, for a sensitised AgBr emulsion, for two
temperatures: 180 and J+ OC. The same dependence for aai
AgBr + AgI emulsion is shown in Fig 4b. The higher
temperature obviously inerea:;es the rate of regression.
The regression for electrons in sensitised emulsions is
slower than in non-sensitised emulsions. The same can
be said for a-particles and this is sho-wn in Fig 5).

PURPOSE : This book is intended for electrical ercineers, Students
4n electrical engineering divisions of schools e higher edu-
cation,and workers in research institutes.
COVERACB: The book is concerned with the application of purportedly
new, progressive methods or statistical. dynamics :o the solution
of various problems of automatic control. The following topics
"ard 1/19
Statl5tical Dynamics of Regulating (Cont,) IOZECIf/5651
are discussed: the meanIngapplioation, and ba!iic eoncepl;B of
atati8tical dynamics; methods of measurement in x-egulating cir-
c-uits; measuring instrumonts; optimal design of rexulatiniz cir-
ouits according to statintical. methods; and the use of statia-,
tical methods In radar, metallurgy, power systems, geologic
sur,iey, electrical measu:ring techniques, and servomechaniP.M8.
The book Is bai3ed on material gathered by the D:Ivision of Ele~-
tri,,.al Engineering In the Technical ZDchool of HIgher Education
in 'Prague, particularly from the following courises: "Theory
of Servomechanisms" (1955) and "Statistical Compensation" ~1957-
59), in the De)':)artment of High-Frequ(!ncy Engineering, and Sta-,
tistical rynamLes" (1959-60), in the Department of Technical
Mea3uremente, and Automatlon. The author thanks V4clav DupO,
Candidate of Sciences, of the Department of Phyaics and Mathe-
mat-Les of Charles University, and A. Ktimkov of the Institute
of Information Theory, Czechoslovak Academy of .3ciences, for
their help. 7here are 99 references:~ 51 Sovie-;, 34 English,

TEXT-. In several places of a servo-eircuit with typically non-
"-ar 'members one nhall find out the dispersion and the avorago of a
!1'astic process. Une supposes that the characteristic quanti,:Ica of
ystem and the stochastic input-effect change slowly. In 'th(j calcu-
~;,...:)n one chooses the seggments of the realitation of the input-effect
periodic Pnd expanded in terms of Laguerre functions. The series coeffi-
cients c are calculated by aid of a specially developed "orthoivnal
analyzAr" with electro mechanical modulation of the Laguerre functions.
In order to obtain the approximative apectral density of the input process
