TITLE: Investloation of the energy dictribution of nickel atoms .-Iormed by cathode sputtering of nickel by mercury ions SCUXE: Zhurnal tc!chn.fiz., v.34, no.2, 1054, 361-3138 TOPIC TAGS: cathode sputtering, puttoxedatom onergj distribution, sputtering ca- thode temperature effect, nickel, mercury ABSTRACT: The energy distribution of neutral atom, tormod by cathode sputtering of, nickel by 200 to 800 eV mercury tons vas investigzted by a modification of the me- thod of R.E.Konig (J.Appl.Phys.29,541~),1958) and R.C.Bradloy (Ibid. 30,1,1959) . The investigation was motivated at least in part by the fact that tho authors were not convinced by the arguriont of G.Wehner (Ibid.31,13C)2,1960) that the momentum of the roflQcted particles could be neglected in his nethcd. Nickel %-,,as chosen as the work- in.- material bqcause it is easily distinguishod from mercury in the mass spectromo- ter. The mercury ions were formed in an arc similar to that employed by G.Wehner (P,hys.Rov.114,1270,1959). The nickel targat was mo%,zted near the wall of the dis- Car ACCESSION NR:, AP4013430 ch,lr[;c chamber. in the region beyond the principal anode, normally filled with an essentially cqgipotential plasmq.. Opposite the target was a grajullito extraction electrode with. an opening to permit ztccoss of tho ions to the high vacuum portion Qf the apparatus. Neutral atoms pJacted by mcrcur~,, ion bombardment of the target, which was nado 200 to 800 V negative v.,ith respect to the plasma, were ionized by electron impact while'traversing.the plasma. The Lons thus formed passed throu.-h the opening in, the extraction electroda and wore ffocused and analyzed by an elec- tr;static system. The. .final analysis ol the ions was performed by.a mass spectrome- ter. Ions formed directly on the tar(:ct were unn,'Io to escape because of the acce- lerating field. The many conditions that must be not in order that the experimen- tai method gi~a rolinble results are discussed ia considerable detail. It Is con- cl'uded that these conditions are met for energies greater than about 10 CV, but that ions of lower energy interact si.-nificantly with the fields in the plasma and at its boundaries. ror these low enorCies, other mothods of investigation must be developed. The energy distribution rif sputtered atoms was investigated as a func- tion of target temperature. The tomporature had no effect until appreciable va- porization set in at about 10000C. At highor te,.nj:*raturos the number of low ener- gy ato ms rose sharply, while the number of high anorgy atoms romained essentially L Ccrd 2/3 ACCESSION NR: AP402-3430 unchanged. "Circulatory Effects Evoked From the Side of tha Biliary Duc,.B." Budapest, tjWr Sebeat . Val XIX, No 2, Apr 615, pages 110-114. Abstract! (Authars' Hungarian aumary] In dogs anaest:netized with chloral03e$ a 36-FO-mm Hg iiierease in pressure through a ca.anulaconnected with the duc. tus choledochus results in a temporary decrease In arterial ten31on. A similar effect can be produced by mild palpation of the gall bladder. When the pressure is increased in the hepatic ducta, the phenomenon will be ab- sent, or minimal. The effect-ckn also be evoked from the direotion of the gall bladder and from the isolated ductus choledochus. The phenomenon will remain -unaffected by Intmabdominal or cervical, bilateral vagotomy. The effect will be 'Inhibited by blocking the caliac ganglion with a 1 per cant Lidocain solution. The clinical aspects Of th$ phenomenon arit mentioned. 4 Hungarian, 5 Western references. 1/1 - 48 - rif thr prennure coursr in a atecel m-0,or Bath -recombustlor. c,i~mberu.ll n. 116. GLTEK.
