11. After examining approx. 100 statuettes of the god Bea from various museums
and from different epochs, it Is concluded that theoriginal of that god was a hypo-
thyroid dwarf. In the course of time the statuettes, which were mantifactured 'en
masse', deviate6 more and more from the original. though preserving some of its
characteristic ti-aits. It is supposed that Bea was created not in Africa but on the
coasts of Asia, raost probably in the Hectic State in Asia Minor.
117. Some sculptu;ed monsters d1scovered at the cactle in Pieskowa Skala show
chiracturistic features of hypothyroidism. They are! probably to be interpreted an
the proof of a widely spread endemic goitre and hyjx)thyroidism in the mountain
region of Cracom, in the 16th century. Ber - L6dt (111. 1. 5. 6*)
