Abstract: [English article] Two to four weeks after
recovery from epidemic
pneumoenteritis, . involving 1-4 month -old calves and
caused by type 4 bovine
adenovirus, about '-alf of the sur,~iving animals
developed severe kerato-
conjunctivitis folio-wed by ulceration and total loss of
sight. Out of 5
samples taken from the discharge. one virus strain was
isolated other than
the type 4 adenovirLS: bovine herpesvirus. The isolation
and properties of
the latter are described briefly. Attempts to produce
keratoconjunctivitis
in calves with the isolated virus were unsuccessful. This.
however, does
not exclude their possible pathogenic role under different
conditions. Atten-
tion is called to the need of examining the incidence and
possible etioloeical
role of undescribed herpesviruses in the numerous
respiratory and ophthal-
mological affections of calves encountered recently. No

Abstract: (Authors' English summary modified] By the use of monolayer
cultures, cytopathologica virus strains could be isolated in only four
out of 28 herds of cattle showing symptoms of virus diarrhea. The isolated
virus strains were proven to be identical with each other and with the
Oregon C24V virus on cross virus neutralization tests. The lesions pro-
duced by the viruses were identical as well. BCBO and bovine adenovirus
were also isolated from fecal samples of the diseased cattle. The results
of the investigation indicate that the etiological agent of-the disease
in Hungary is identical with the strain Oregon CZ4V vlavs isolated In the
USA. The possibility, however# that serologically and imune-biologicaUy
identical,non-cytopathogenic strains may also play a role in the etiology

showed infection with trichinella in 2.4 and 2.5%
respectively. The infection of dogs
and cats is considered a possible link In the
chain by which endemic trichinosis Is

the density of the disease.
