Abstract s Concrete mixers providing a continuous flow up to the present
have not received wide application. The difficulty is with
the proportioning hopper. To remedy this, the All-Union Scien-
tific Research Institute of Building and Road-Machine Construc-
tion together with the Institute of Autcmatic Science and Tele
mechanics, has developed an automatic weiLhing hopper of contin-
uous operation. The device insures a constant flow of the proper
proportions of cement.. sand and gravel or crushed stone. The.
author describes this hopper iii detail and illustrates his ey.-
planations with tables and drawings.

ABSTRACT: The author describes new building machines developed
by the
above Institute during the last few years e.e. excavator E-153
with a bucket capacity of 0-15m3 for small excavations and
trench excavator E?N-122 with an excavation depth of 1.2m
attached to tractor "Belarus". Figure 1 illustrates detachable
mechanism of the excavator E-651 and E-652 for breaking up
frozen soil. The scraper D-357 has a bucket capacity of
10-12m3. (It is of a very practicable shape). It was developed
in the above mentioned Institute. The Institute is now working
on a mobile scraper with a 100-300 h.p. From 1~54/57 the
Institute concentrated on developing soil conveyers e.g. the
one
attached to tractor S-180 with a capacity of 4oom3 per hour.
At the same time in collaboration with the Bryanak road machine
factory the Leningrad branch of the Institute designed a
mobile &rader-conveyer machine (see Figure 2) with a capacity
of 800mJ per hour. A further machine was designed by the
VNIIStroydormash. A mobile machine for cutting and loosening
the soil works a strip 2-hm wide and at the same time conveys
the

material. jo lorries. The capacitj 3f this combine machine
is 3,000m per hour. The most signific!int part is the cutter
designed by the above mentioned Institute (see Figure 3). A
further development is excavator F,505 powered by a 54 h-P-
engine. This is a combine with a turbo transformer which
makes it equivalent to the excavator F-505 (without turbo-
transformer) powered by a 70 h.p. engine. Figure 4 illustrates
a steam mallet operated by vibration for driving piles into
the ground. A single bucket scraper mounted on tractors 3-80
and DT-55 with a capacity of I ton was put into production also
scraper T-182A which has a capoity of 3oom3 per hour. The
Institute constructed a conveying installation for the delivery
of cement from railway trucks into silos. The whole installation
is mounted on a lorry GAZ-210. Engineer A.A. Voroblev of
Lenfilial of VNITStroydormash designed two types of vacuum
conveying installationsS-347 and S-362A with capacities of
3-40 and 25~-30 tons per hour reEpotively. Figure 5 illustrates
the layout of a pneumatic installation for cement dalvery from
railway trucks to silos used in a Leningrad factory for
reinforced concrete products. Figure 6 illustrates a vibrating
sieve SM-572 and Figure 7 a powerful deep vibrator for the
consolidation of concrete in connection with piling. There are

ABSTRACT: With the existing system of the centralized traffic
control, the code
line is overcrowded with sendings, indications come late, and
dispatcher' a
work is hampered. The Chair of Automation and Telemechanics,
Leningrad
Electrotechnical Institute of Railroad Transportation Engineers,
surveyed the
centralized traffic control system at a 10-block single-track RR
section. The
survey was conducted over 3.5 days. It was found that 53 control
and 324
indication sendings were transmitted per hour on the average. The
maximum

number of sendings was 508 per hour; the minimum number, 248. The
coefficient of hourly irregularity of line utilization (the ratio of
maximum to
average) was found to be 1. 35. Average transmission time for one
sending
with a spacing between the sendings was found to be 4. 5 -5. 0 sec -
The
ma3dmurn possible number of sending* was found to be 720-800 per
hour. The
average utilization of the investigated section was 52%, the maximum
71%. A
50-60% utilization of a code line causes almost no delays in
transmission of
indications that could adversely affect normal dispatcher's work or
train traffic.
Delays in indications arriving at the time of maximum line crowding
are short
and, according to the dispatchers, do not disturb normal operation.
For that
reason, speeding up the signaling in not a dire necessity. A
high-speed
centralized traffic control system will be particularly efficient if
the line is
utilized in a nonuniform manner and at the moments of train crossing
where
the blocks are identical. The following conclusions are offered:

(1) a centralized traffic control system for a single-track section
having a
block nonidentity factor of 0. 6 -0. 7 should be designed on the
basis of a 5010
code-line utilization; (2) with a nonidentity factor over 0. 7, all
the more fot
the sections with identical blocks, the 50% basis of line
utilization does not
exclude considerable overcrowding of the line at some moments; in
such cases
a high-speed centralized traffic control system should be used
because it cuts
line overcrowding and makes an increased number of units possible.
