The rare earth metals included the series fTm lanthanum to luterium. Spectroscopic analysis was us- ed in the determination of the distribution of the elements. The rare earth metals and yttrium were found in both lead and zinc phases. The lighter rare earths (so got cerium) were concentrated in the molten lead, while the heavier rare earths (e.g., lu- terium) and yttrium were principally found in the zinc phase. Grigorov and Murzin (Ref 1) determined k as amountipZ to - 30% for inter- 'U action between cosmic particles (E , 10 ev) and light nuclei. The present paper deals with investigations of the average o energy of x -mesons produced by - 9 Bev protons on photo- emulsion nuclei. HIM emulsions of the type R (450g) were used. Proton irradiation was carried out on the synchrophaso- tron of the OIYaI. Investigation was indirect; the electron- positron pairs were investigateg which had been produced by Card 1/2 an the y-quanta originating from n -decay. For R - n 0/n . a 0- SOV/56-36-3-6/71 The Production of R Mesons in t~,e Interaction Between Protons With Energies of 9 Bev and PhotoemDlsion Nuclei estimate-is R ri 0-5. Figure 1 shows the measured distribution of the angles of emission of electron-positron pairs, of the fast charged particles of stars, found by prolonging the traces of primary protons and of stars,_Lound by following the fast secondary particles. For n and N 4. L+0.2 and 7-8�0.7 is h obtained, which agre8s well with the values of reference 4. The mean energy of n -mesons is determined front f - iRo/E_Y, for f - 1.8 T I( o - 750+180 Mev is obtained. The mean energy 1i - 3/2. (n _0_7; generated by a n-meson, according to ot be- comes E - 3-CL+0.7; a more exact estimate gives 2.5.�0.6.
