ABSTRACT: A similar method was suggested already in
Zavodsiraya Laboratoriya,
957, Vol. 21, Nr 7 , pp. 779-779, i.e. with respect to the
appli-
cation of titrated cupferron 3olutions -.vten determining
elements
which form compounds or precipitations undissolvable with
cupferron.
Here it is specially pointed out that such applications have
been
unaertaken already in previous times by Olson and Elving
(1954), but
that this method in pmotice prove3 to be too complicated.
The use
of a zirconium dioxide solution for the determination of
zirconium
is 3U&geSted by the present paper, which ~as obtained by
blending
of this substance with soda at MOO and consecutive
do-leaching by
hydrochloric acid. For carrying out the experiment the
application
of the already previously described amperometrio device and
the me-
thod (as for the determination of titanium) is recommended.
In this
case the addition of soaitun chloride is favorable for the
process of

20 experiments carried out simultaneously the average
Possibility
of errors w&s stated to be 0.55,0L In this case the content
of
aluminum, chromium, manganese, zinc, nickel, and some other
ele-
ments contained In the solution did not prove to be
disturbing.
Titarxium, pentavalent vanadium, oxidation substances,
vihich are able
to oxidize cupferron, or the regenerators which are able to
pro-
duoe anode diffusion current, proved to be disturbing. An
example
of the analysis experiment is given here. There are 4
references,
2 of which are Slavic.

The fauna
of Lake Baykal is distinguished by many

peculiarities which are
oonsequenceo of its ancient

origin as well as of.a long and
complicated

history. Every now fact that contributes to 14-ho
colution

of this difficult problem is very interesting. At the

station a poculinrity, as yet unknown, of sone endemic

animals
of Lake Baykal could be discovered: the occurrerLce

of d7tarf
males, and-that among species that are not

related at all, a
fish and ganmnrid water fleas (reference 1).

In fish usually
both sexes have the samo size. The male

gamziarid is usually
taller than the fonale. Tho same fact

applies to
bottom-inhabiting bullheads of Lake Baema, too,

forms (table 1). According to tho author the forms with
dwarf males are joined by one importamt fact - thev form
the young progressive or specialized part of the Baykal
fauna. The appearance and filrthor davolopmont of populations
with dwarf males in Lako Baykal is oonnooted with their
most recent stages of devolopmento The author trios to
give a general explanation of the phenomenon troatod, As
is wall known Lake Baikal is very rich in living creatures.
On the other hand this lake is oligotrophiop that is
deficient in food, Thus the nutritional relations are
very complicated here, and the bioeoenotio factors must
play an important, if not decisive part in the existonco,
of every creature. Just in the sandy groundwater zones
deficient in nutriment (referonae 8) immense quantities
of animals of a similar nutritional type and spectrum
are concentrated. Also small gammaride with dwarf malea
live there in huge numbers (reference 9). Contrary to that
