The Problem of HardenIng Ghloromagnoula Comento SOV/80-32-3-7/43 There are 2 tables, 4 graph& and 6 Soviet references. SUBMITTEDj May 3o 1957 Card 2/2 5(2) SOV/60-32-4-3/47 AUTHORS: Tyrodov, 1,,P.,, Bergman,-A,G. TITLE: The Problem of Hardening of Magnesia Cements (K voprosu o tverdenii magnezis,Vnykh tsementov) PERIODICAL: Zhurnal prikladnoy khimiir 1959, Vol 32, Nr 4~ PP 716-723 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The article is a continuation of the work published in Nr 1 and Nr 3 of this journal. Cements with MgO:MgCl2 ratios of 1:19 M9 3;3.,, 5$1,,, 7:1 were testedo The thermograms of the samples are showt in Figures I and 2. The endothermal effects are shifted to higher t6mperatures if the ratio is increased. The bottom deposits show no endothermal effects (Figures 3 and 4). In the roentgenograms of the samples the lines indicating Mg(OH)2 were absent. This is explained by the deviation of the oxychlorides formed during hardening from the stoichiometric relation due to defects in the crystal lattice. The positions of the OH-and CI-ions are not differentiated. The syngony of the decomposition product of the oxychlorides rises from hexagonal to tetragonal. During the hardening of Card 1/2 the cement magnesium hydroxide is absent as intermediate phase. SOV/80-32-4-3/47 The Problem of Hardening of Magnesia Cements The cements form ncm-stoic-hiometric oxychloride hydrates. The least deviation from stoichiometric composition is observed in samples with a vapor pressure between 1.6 and -.1 14.5 mm Eg- Tlt~j has the formula 3Mg0*XgCl2olOR20- Th6re. are 6 graphs, 2 tablesp and 13 riferancesq 9 of which are Soviek., 2 Engligh, I Swiss, and I Japanesb. The latter fact is due to a con- siderable hydration of the salts which, in many cases, is stronger than the complex formation (figure I shows the melt- ability diagram of the complex mentioned in the title). Only one compound of the Na and K sulphates (frequently found in deposits of potassium sulphate) could be found: Na, K 3(so 4)2 called glaserite. If water is absent, there exists also a com- pound which develops during the decomposition of solid solu- Card 1/4 tions of the mentioned element a at temperatures below 4760. Complex Formation and Rhase Transformations in a BOV/20-127-3-19/71 Quaternary Reciprocal System of Chlorides and Sulphates of Lithium, Sodium and Potassium These solid solutions, however, decompose in the ternary system of Li, Wa, XIISO4 at a temperature r educed to 784-8160, and form 3 compounds. Neither was it possible to find their exact composition or to prove the identity of a compound with one of them (stable below-4760). The decomposition temperature of1hese solid solutions is,however, reduced by the presence of the chloridea of the same elements. The thermodynamic con- ditionz are of greatest importance for the complex formation, especially in the presence of other components in the liquid phase. All this proves the great importance of medium and solvent for the complex formation. The investigation of meltings of the systems mentioned in the title (Fig 1)(Refs !-9) proved 17 complex compounds. Five of them are double salts. The different phases are graphically represented in the areas of a trihedral prism (Fig 2). Three phases develop [13, 11119 Lill] in the decomposition of sona solutions of the sulphates of Na and X. The investigation of the meltings of this Card 2/4 quaternary system (Fig 1) showed an extraordinary complexity Complex Formation and Phase Transformations in a SOV/20-127-3-19/71 Qu.aternary Reciprocal System of Chlorides and Sulphates of Lithium, Sodium and Potassium of the components which is similar to silicates and borates. Figure 2 shows that sulphates of Li and Na form 2 compounds while their chlorides form only one single compoun4i There exist also 2 compounds among the corresponding sulphides. In the system Lip Na, KIISO 4 there exist 5 inner phases: [IV], IV] , [VI] . EVTIJ , and [VIII] which are tbree-f old sulphates. More than 69000 points of the crystallizing tempeiaturee were determined for the complete investigation of the meltability diagram of the system under, diaouesion. _ On the basis of these data, complete investigations of the melting diagrams of 24 cross sections (triangular and squate) through the prism were carried out. Figure 3 shows the mentioned diagram of a verti'~, cal sectionp while figure 4 shows a horizontal one. BY Means of these arose sections 4 phasescould be found: ~X~ LX 9 [XI], and [XII]. All of them are quaternary hatero-ion Com- pounds. There are 4 figures, 1 table, and 9 Soviet references. I., TITLEt Fusibility of ternary systems of sodium, potassiumt and aeBium chlorides PERIODICALt Zhurnal neorganicheskoy khimii, v- 7, no. 3, 1962, 695 - 696 TEXT: According to its position in the periodic system the properties and salt structure of cesium differ more widely from those of sodium than potassium (to-whose subgroup it belongs). The great difference in ionic radii (K - 1.33 R, ca - 1.65 R), does not, however, prevent the formation of continuous solid solutions. The authors used their own visual-poly- thermal method (Zh. obehoh. khimii, L6, 981 (1956)). Data are expressed in moles per cent. As to the NaCl-CaCl binary systems, the authors' data on the eutectic at 34% NaCl and 4930C coincide with those of S. F. Zhemchuzhny;i'i--F. Rambakh (ZhRFKhO, 41, 1785 (1909)), but the fusibility curves are somewhat more curved. In CsCI-KC1, a continuous series of solid solutions was found with a minimum at 6060C and 36~ Kci. As to NaCl-KC1, A. G. Bergman and N. M. Selivanova (Izv. Sektora fiz.-khim. Card 1157- B/078/62/007/003/016/019 Fusibility of ternary systems... B110/3138 analiza, L1, 229 (ig3a)) show that a continuous series of solid solutions is formed with a minimum at 6580C and 47-5~ XCI. They dissociate when cooled below 500OC- Six internal sections were examined in the ternary system Ila, K, CsjjCl. Section III, and particularly VI, clearly showed that the KCl-.CsCl solid solutions, dissociate when NaOl is introduced due to the great Aifference between the ionic radii of K and Cs within the system. Hencep the curve of combined crystallization of the CsCl and KC1 solid solutions, which are mutually restricted, appears quite distinctly. NaCl and KC1 solid solutions dissociate also within the system beginning near 5360C and below. As a result, three monovariant curves of the com- bined crystallization of two phases converge, at the ternary eutectic point, at 4800C, and the composition 45-5~ CsClo 30P' NaCl and 24.5% M. The isotherms in the system were passed through 5000. If the dissociation eurvesof solid solutions are continued to the appropriate sides, the com- position area of the system triangle is divided into three fields of. crystallization: NaCl - 36-4%; KC1 - 0"; Cs(;l - 17-5%ieu[Abstracter's note: Essentially complete translationy. Interactions in the ternary system urea-phenol-ben- zoic acid TITLE: P ERIODICAL: Zhurnal obshchey khimii, V. 33, no. 1, 1963o 19-22 The present work was undertaken in an effort to study sys- the interactions of urea with organic compounds. Pare materials and vip-ual-polythermal methods were used. Melting point measurements in the binary systems phenol-urea (1)9 phenol-benzoic acid (II)l and urea-benzoio acid (III) showed the existence oft - a euteotic at 3560 and 6.5 mol% ureap and a transition point 60.60C and 33.0% OO(NH)2, corresponding to a compound CO(NH2)2'- 2C6H5 OH; II -'a eutectic at 2800 and 14% 06H5COOH; III -a congru- ent melting compound 300(NH2)2' 06H5000H. separating from the li- quid phase at 11000, and 2 eutectio points at 75.5 0C/49.5% urea Card-1/2 S/079/63/033/001/002/023 lInteractions in the ... The region of existence of 3CO(NH ) 9C H COOH 2 2 6 2 2 6 5 5 extends far into the phase diagram. There was a ternary eutectic .a t 1800, corresponding to 12.5 benzoic acid - 7.5 urea - 80 phenol, land 2 transition points: at 350C (25.0 benzoic acid - 17.0 area !58.0 phenol), and 4100 (26.5 benzoic acid - 34.5 urea - 39.0 phe- 'nol). The low melting mixtures were highly viscoust suggesting fur-,' ther complexing in the liquid phase.
