TITLEs Production of commercial concentrates of zircon I
ilmenite
and monazite from indigenous sea sands
PERIODICALs Przemysl Chemiozny, no. 3, 1961, 149-150
TEXTs In this article a method is described by which zircon,
ilmenite and monazite concentrates can be obtained from sea
sands, For
several years the Instytut Netali Lokkioh (Light Metals
Institute)
carried out investigations in that direction but without
success. The
authors managed to develop the method by which a product of
standard
purity can ''bwobbtained. The final zircon concentrate is
obtained by
separating aame from rutile by means of flotation. Before
floating
the mixture of zircon and rutile grains must be specially
treated with
0.4% solution.of fatty acid salts at 9500. By doing so
selective
adsorption takes place and fatty acid anions are adsorbed by
zircou

grains. After this treatment the grains are washed first in water and
afterwards with diluted sulfuric aoid. Fatty acids adsorbed are now
converted into fatty acids hard to solve. Fatty acids are not wetted by
waterl therefore zircon grains are becoming hydrophobic. From the
miitture so prepared, titano-magnotite, ilmenite and garnet are removed
by magnets and the remaining grains diverted into flotation chamber.
Before flotation this mixture contained about 70% zircon, 14% rutile
and 14% of other opa4ue minerals. After flotation the concentration
of zircon is increased to 97% with 87% efficiency. Obtaining ilmenite
concentrate4 From the sea sands treated with magnetic enrichment, a
mixture of ilmenite and titana-magnatite was obtained. This mixture was
roasted in CO atmosphere at 7000C. The product of this treatment was
subjected to another magnetic enrichment from which two products were
obtaineds The titano-magnatits and ilmenite with 50.25% of T102- Monazite
separations In sea sand samples 0.14, of monazite was detected. In the
concentrate obtained thbre were 90-97% of monazite, 1.5% zircon, 0.9%
of garnets and 6.63% of opaque minerals. (Abstractor's notet No details
of monazite extraction a,re given.) The authors concludes Polish sea

Principles of the speatrographic method of chemical

sections of the petroleum industry-primarily for t~A

provides accurate data, both qualitative and quantitivet
as to the chemical composition of boring samples examinedt
its chief adyantage being the rapidity with which
tests can be oarriod out. Spectroohemioal analysis
makes it possible to separate, in certain strata,
soratigraphicEaly defined horizons which can serve
as a guide for geological correlation. The authors
specify, in addition to the systematics of spectro

authors conclude that this method, vhioh is one of
the links in the most recent branch of science-

TW. The article contains a tentative solution of the design of a
system with three loaded models, explaining the feasibility of
Introducing
a fourth'~nloaded node and fixing the position of this node by
designing a
four-node structure for minimum potential. The article is based
on the theo-
rem previously established by the Strength Design Groups of the

unon three nodes of a triangular truss, following deformation
stresses may
*rise in the rods of the truss; (1) stresses of equal sign,
(2) stresses of
a sign different :in one rod from that in the other two rods.
In case of (1),
we will obtain a quadrangular truss of a potential not loKar
than that of the
original truss, if an arbitrary rod of the triangular truss
is removed and an
unloaded node introduoed, which is oonneeted by rods with
each of the given
loaded nodes. In oase of (2), the removal of &n arbitrary rod
of the original
truss and introduetion of a fourth, unloaded node into the
triangle truss in-
terior, results in quadrangular trUsse3 of a potential larger
than the poten-
tial of the original truss. There are 18 figures, 3 tables
and 4 Polish re-
ferenoes.

which the samples are immersed for 1 minute after
which
they are left in the air for 14 minutes. Altogether 20
cycles (5 hours) are carried out during 24 hours; du-
ring the remaining 19 hours the samples are left in
the
air.
5. In order to mke a comparison between actual
operation
data and laboratory studies in the salt chamber, the
tests
are conducted, in the latter, using a mist containing
2
liters S02 and 2 liters C02 per 60 liter volume of the
chamber. Temperature of the tests 37 t 10, relative
humi-
dity 100%; duration of the chamber test is of 5 hours,
for 19 hours per 24 the samples are left in room

coatings,
but is not suitable for testing coatings produced by
the
methods of phosphatizing and chromium coating, and for
other chemical coatings.

ABSTRACT specimena in a solution of NH&CI. The other
methods require considerably more time. The
results from the testn haye made it possible to
establish a dependence of the corrosion resistance
of Sn-coat'ings on their thickness. The corrosion
resistance of pasoivated Sn-coatingB was fotind to
increase with thickness, while the corrosion res-
