Studying the Causes of Internal Crack Formation in High-Alloy Steel Ingots PERIODICAL:. V ab., "Usadochn. protsessy v metallaW', Moscow, AN SSSR, 1960, pp. 147 151 TEXT: For the purpose of eliminating defoots In ingota resulting from thermal cracks, the propertlea of octahedral V395 (EI395). 3 405 (M405) and 10 481 M48i) steel forge ingots were investigated. The ingots weighing 1.3 - 2.1 tons were cast into molds of different conicity. The ingot-mold thermal con- ditions were studied'. Data are given on the basic types of molds used and on the macrostructure of EI405 steel ingots, cast into molds with ordinary, double and -triple conicity. The high quality of an ingot cast into molds of triple conicity is stated (5.5% at the top, 16% In the middle portion and 100% at the bottom, Card 1/2 S/137/61/000/001/tol/lb43 Aoo6/Aooi Studying the Causes of Internal Crack Formation in High-Alloy Steel Ingots which is spherical). The authors studied the mechanism of the ingot solidifica- tion and of the formation of transverse cracks in the ingot. They revealed the positive affect of warming-up the mold with a molding mixture or the speeded-up transfer of the ingot in the mold into the pressing shop at 720 - 8400C in order to eliminate thermally the cracks In the ingots. K. iORG: None ITITLE: A circular optical transducer,0 ISOURCE: Stanki i instrument, no. 2, 1966, 43 ITOPIC TAGS: optic instrument, recording.instrument, oscillograph, machine tool, clutch !ABSTRACT: The authors describe a circular optical transducer designed for registering langular displacements which may also be used for measuring linear displacement by an ,indirect method. This transducer makes it possible to register the displacement of an ioperating unit during transient and steady-state processes. A diagram is given showing the construction and components. The frame of the transducer is fixed on the rotating lead screw on the roller of the unit to be studied. A notion picture film with etched lines (see figure 1) is mounted on the frame by means of a collar. This film aeba as a phonogram for sound frequency recording. An optical system is located inside the frame which transmits a fine beam of light through the film. The sequence of lines and trans, parent sections causes periodic variations in the light beam intensity during rotation I Pf the lead screw. These variations are transformed into electric pulses by means of A photocell and amplifier. The electric pulses are registered on an oscillogram. The Cgrd 1/3 UDC: 621-791.2:621.9 'L 367go-66 :~~'~kCC NR, AP6018271 creteness of displacement registration is determined by the recording frequency of phonogram (the distance between lines), Vhile the number of pulses per revolution ends on the diameter of the transducer frame. Production of Dicarboxylic Acids by Oxidation of "Oxy Acids" W~th Nitric Acid. Communication III PERIODICAL: Zhurnal prikladno~ khimil, ig6o, Vol 33, Nr 2, pp 463-467 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The oxidation of paraffins with nitric acid. can yield,,depending on the reaction conditions, a series of oxygen-containing compounds such as al- cohols, aliphatic acids,~esters, as well as products of further oxidation of the aliphatic acids (hydrox-y-, aldehyde-, and keto-acids and their derivatives), lactones, lactides, etc. Unlike paraffins, alcohols, aliphatic acids, and their esters which are soluble in petroleum. ether, the products of further oxidation of Card, 1A aliphatic acids are insoluble in petroleum 'ether and Production of Dicarboxylic Acids by Oxidation of "Oxy Acids" With Nitric Acid. This Insoluble fraction is called usually "oxy acids" (pltsikisloty) in USSR, and it can be used for the synthesis of dicarboxylic acids. C. Paquot and F. Goursac reported (Bull. Soc. Chim".,' 1950, Vol 172) the auto-oxidation of saturated aliphatic.. acids with an even number of carbon atoms (C6 to C18). effected at 100-1200 C, in the presence of nickel phthalocyanine. The above authors established that the oxidation of the chain took place chiefly in the - position; the reaction yielded a monocarboxylic A& with a lower molecular weight (containing also an even number of C atoms), and oxalic acid. The chain became gradually shorter, until caproic acid wa's obtained and could riot be oxidized anymore und the conditions of the reaction. The oxidation in K and -positions was insignificant, and deeper oxidation of the q -atom only leads to the formation of malonic and Production of' Dicar-boxylic Ac1d3 by Qxldutlon 7,166o of' "Oxy Acids" With Nitric Acid. The authors of the present study do not agree with the above, The starting inaterial for their Investigation was a mixture of paraffins obtained from the urea deparaffinization of diesel oils.
