ABSTRACT: The authors study the effect of the chemical composition and specific pl:o-
duction factors of various variePies of stainless steel on mechanical and magnetic pro-
perties of wire during drawing.,-,The results of the study show that it is necessary to
suppress the y-*a transformation in order to produce spring wire from stainless steel
which has a minimum a-phase cpntent and high ductility. This suppression can be acco9q,
plished by increasing nickel~content from 10.5 to 11.0%, maintaining minimum titaniumP
content of not more than 5 TC-0.02)%, maintaining austenization temperatures (l 0-
110000 and multiple-pyss drawing at speeds not exceeding 150-200 m/min. Nevertheless,
the production of wirelfrom KhlftlOT~steel which contains nickel at the upper limit
given by GOST 5632-61 oes not guarantee attainment of the strength requirements. ThiB

be expected from steel with a nonstandard titanium content up to 0.3%. In this case,
the selection of a metal at the upper limit with respect to carbon content (0.10-0.12%)
would improve strength and lower the quantity of the a-phase along with alloying aus-
tenite with a certain amount of uncombined carbon. Wire producedIn this manner shoul
be sufficiently stable with respect to intercrystalline corrosion. Greater strength
and higher ductility with low a-phase content can be 'obtained by making wire from
steel not alloyed with titanium. At the some time, carbon content does not have to ex-
ceed 0.05-0.8% to prevent intercrystalline carros on. While the limitations with re-
spect to a-phase concentration do not conform ~ given set of rules, still the
strongest wire can be produce by work hardeningl Lioyed ausitenite and by the y-Oa

Title : Concerning pathogenic therapy in cases of gastro-intestinal
colic in horses.
Periodical : Yeterinariya, 10, 52-551 Oct 1954
Abstract -Intravenous injection of 10% solution of sodium bromide in combina-,
tion with coffelne produced posiciveeffects in majority of 20
horses treated for gastro-intestinal colic. The therapeutic effect
of bromide-coffeine mixture depends on the type of nervous activity
in each individual case and on the condition of the nervous system
at the time the bromide-coffeine treatment was inaugurated. Since
there are many caunes, of gastro-intestinal colic and since there are
different courses that the disease may take, treatment must not be
limited to intravenous injection of bromide-coffeine mixturei pb_vsical
therapy, laxatives, and diets may produce the desired results.

Abstract The anti-hoof-and-mouth disease vaccine VIEV imparts to
vaccinated pigs a sufficiently strong imunity against
infection by the virus) and is an effective biodrue for
specific prophy~axis of this disease in pigs. Timely
prophylactic vaccination of pigs, conducted on farms
vhere hoof-and-nouth disease has appeared arjona cattlej,
prevents the infection of the pigs. Conditional vac-
cination of healthy pigs in piGstys contaminated by

hoof-and-mouth..disease provides positive results under
the condition of sinultaneously implementing veterinary
sanitary measures. On contaminated farms, in cases of
continuation of illness with hoof-and-nouth disease
among vaccinated pigs beyond the 8 - 10th day frora the
time of their vaccination, or the reappearance of ill-
nesses after the indicated period, it is necessary to
vaccinate the pige repeatedly with the previous dosagen,
which prevents the further spread of disease and aids
the sanitation of the farms. With vaccinations of pigs
with a vaccine with a 4 content of the original virus
material, it is necessary for reliable immunization to
conduct a double innoculation of the vaccine with an
interval of 7 days.
