TITLE: Certain problems of.ethylenelpolymerizationlin the presence of various
initiators '
SOURCE: Vysokomolekulyarnyye soyedineniya, v. 8, no. 4, 1966, 722-726
TOPIC TAGS: ethylene, peroxide, polymerization initiator, thermal decomposition
ABSTRACT: A study has been made of radical polymerization of ethylene under contin-
uous processing at pressures of 1000 to 1500 atm and at temperatures of 175 to 275 C
in the presence of initiators tertbutylperbenzoate, dicunvl peroxide, tertbutyl
peroxide, and tetramethyltetrazene cumene hydroperoxide. For all initiators, except
cumene hydroperoxide, the curve of polyethylene yield versus temperature reaches
maximum at 5000-6000 gram per liter per hour (pressure 1300 atm). Comparison of the
experimenatl data with the theoretical curves of the decomposition of initiators at
high pressures and temperatures indicated that the optimum polymerization temperature
approximately corresponds to the complete decomposition of the initiator. The varia-
Cord 1/2 UDC: 66-095.26 678-742

tion of the pressure in the interval 1000 to 1500 atm has practically no effect on
the optimum temperature. When cumene hydroperoxide is used as the initiator, the
reaction takes place at a high rate, at a temperature at vhich the thermal decom-
position of the initiator is negligible. The cumene hydroperoxideldecomposition is
assumed to be accelerated b~ the induced chain development caused by the reaction of
cumene hydroperoxide and ethylene. Orig. art. has; 2 figures and 2 formulas. [NT)

TI TILE The Growth of Suckling Rats When the Mother is
Given Phthivazid and Tubazid in the Diet both

OPIG. FUB. Vopr. pitanya, 1958, 17, No. 4, 8-15
IABSTRACT Lactating female rats recieved in their diets
the antitubercular preparations phthivatid and
tubazid (50 and 25 mg per animal per day respec
tively). The presence of these preparations in
the diet of the mother did not reflect upon the
development of the litter. The simultaneous
addition of 150 micrograms of vitamin B6 to the
diet resulted in an increase in the weight of
the young rats. The control rats, suckled by
mothers receiving fi--diiit devoid of vitamin B6.,
developed poorly and succuiij)ed between day 10 and

896. THE USE OF PRECIPITOGEN PREPARED WITH COPPER SALTS FOR
THE DIAGNOSIS OF BRUCELLOSIS (Russian text) - Bogomolova
T P , Gorchakova G.A. and Naumova R. R~~~MO
(917-922)
A simple and technically easy method of production of brucellosts precipitogen
is described. Precipitogen thus obtained from the cultures of brucellae was used
for diagnosis of brucellosis in man in conjunction with other diagnostic methods
The new preparation was found effective and sufficiently specific to be used in rou
tine serological, investigations. (S)
