Ina special self-constructed air chamber of 2.7 cu.m. volume the author studied the in-
fectiousness of Influenza aerosol in the rangeof 18-24*C. and of40-70% relative
humidity on 223 mice and an adequate number of chicken embryos. We found that
the influenza virus may Persist In the air for 6 hours. The Infectiousness tested
2 hr. following dispersion is of such a degree that infection occurs in 50% of the
mice exposed. The influence of temperature proves mainly the d
eleterlous effect of
increasing temperature on the influenza virus and the increased infectiousness at a

A factor capable of destroying erythrocyte virus receptors and of exposing the T
antigen on them was found in pneurnococcal cultures of various serological types.
The factor is inactivated by trypsin and by heating at 56* C. , and its activity de-
creases in an alkaline medium. In these respects the pneumococcal factor re-
sembles the crude receptor -destroying enzyme (RDE) recovered from V. cholerae.
It differs from RDE in its lower sensitivity to decalcifying reagents, and in the
serum requirement for Its formation.

The bones of the pelvis form a relatively large part of the total skeleton. In addition,
they cotstitute one of the principal locations of the red bone marrow. In these two
physiolc~gical anatomical characteristics is to be seen the cause of a not inconsid-
erable incidence of manifestations of disease processes in the pelvic girdle. The
more typical signs are considered on the basis of many pelvic radiographs that
have benn studied, viz. -. (1) Inflammatory phenomena can be detected radiologically.
(2) TumDurs such as chondroaarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma present an inconstant
r&diololical picture in the pelvic region. at any rate more so than in other parts of
the bony skeleton, which renders them difficult to detect radiologically. (3) The
majority of large tumours can easily be determined by radiography, though some-
times only a biopsy in conclusive. (4) Osteolytic turnours which give no clue to the

cal brass chamber of the U1 of 100 mm. dia-
meter and 230 mm height. The above cylinder

tric. Operation of LH is based on the deter-
mination of an avorago dielectric constant
of the fiber E, which varies with its wator

The various roentgenological appearances of sequestrated. colliquated or sloughed
carcinomatous round-focus of the lung are described. Whereas the roentgenologi-
cal picture gives a6me hints for -the diagnosis of a malignant tumour, the clinical
symptomatology to totally uncharacteristic. The differential diagnosis has to con-
sider acute and chronic lung abscess. gangrene, tuberculous cavities and occasion-
ally sloughing solitary, solid metastases of peripheral tumours. Seventeen cases,
aged from 47 to 72 yr., were observed with this symptom, representing 3.5% of
all pulmonary carcinomas observed between 1946 and 1954 in the clinic.

-The pathogenesis, clinical aspects, X-ray diagnosis and differential diagnosis of
pulmonary abscedses due to.carcinoma are discussed. Reference is made to 17
cases of such abscesses. This corresponds with 3.516 of the total number of bron-
chogenic carcinomas treated at the 2nd Surgical Clinic of the Karls-University* in
Prague between 1946 and 1954. Attention is drawn to diagnostic difficulties and
possible errors and the characteristic and specific features of the X-ray picture
of pulmonary carcinoma abscess are demonstrated in a few instances.

Typical malignancy signs, caused -, by the dynamics of the growth
of the tumor node and its relation to the annropriate bronchovascul-
ar stalk, are described. These signs are made visible in oriented
projection in respect to the bronchvascular axis of the tumor . 16
