Abstract An investigation was made to find substitutes for
molybdenum-containing
steels, satisfying the requirements Imposed on materials for bolts
and pins,
intended fork operation at-temperatures up to 500o. A study vas made
of the
effect of the V)W, and C content aqd its influence on the creep
resistance
long-term strength, relVation endurance, and sensitivity to tempering
brit-
tleness. it was established that the first three characteristice
increase
vith the vanadium content up io 1%; the maximum sensitivity to
tembering and
thermal brittleness is displayed by chrome-vanadium steels at 0.5% V.
Chrome-
vanadium steels containing 1.25% W and 0.25 -- 0* 30% C are
insensitive to
tempering and thermal brittleness, have high creep resistance, high

0.23 -- 0.30% C, 1.2 -- 1.4$ Cr, 1 -- o.4% W and 0.2 -- 0.3% V, has a

ABSTRACT: The s s e tibility.to brittle failure of welded joints
of_Khl8gl2T
Khl8N9 and Kh Ptenitic steels has been investigated. Specimens cut
either

were subjected to
bend tests at 500-800 C at a constant deformation rate (the TsKT1
method). Welded
joints of Khl8Nl2T steel were found to be susceptible to brittle
failure. The
melting method, type of welding electrodejor preheating have no
significant effect on
the susceptibility to brittle, failure. ~Welded joints of Khl8N9
steel. were found to
be less susceptible to brittle failure than those of Khl8Nl2T,
especially when the
carbon content was low and the-steel contained no titanium. The
highest resistance
to hrittlb.failure In"'the weld-adjacent~zone was observed in
Khl6N9M2 steel containing

Abstract : A case of cutaneous melanama of the skin of the back Vith
metastaaes to adjacent areas Is described. Close X-ray
therapy vas used Ill 17 fields with a total dose of 7000 r
In each. As a result, a reduction or disappearance of
metastases vhich had nat been irradiated was observed in
addition to the decrease in size of the min tumor and of
the irradiated netastases; In addition, a hyperergic re-
action occurred vhIch was expressed in the appearance of
an acute articular rheumatlen and myocarditis. The pa-
tient died frou metastases t3 the lutig roots and pleura.

A distillate with a boiling interval at 300-4000C was used as

lasted for
1 hr. The experiment was carried out under the same conditions

ABSTRACTI Fluorine monoxide OF 2 is a colorless and very
poisonous gas
which is even more dangerous than elementary fluorine (Ref 1).
Larger concentrations of OF 2 can be iodometrioally determined
(Ref 2). in the present paper a method is worked out for the
determination.of r-quantitiee of fluorine monoxide in air.
As OF 2. is a strong oxidizing medium, various analytical
redox
reactlons were investigated which lead to the development of
a coloring in the absorption solution itself. It was, however,
found that fluorine mofioxide reacts only very slowly with
aqueous solutions beoause*it is difficultly soluble in water.
The nature of.the method of determining traces of OF 2 in air,
which was worked out by the authors, consists in eliminating
bromine from potassium bromide by means of fluorine monoxide.
Card 1/3 The bromine formed reacts with fluorescein to the

ment of the formation of tetrabromofluoresoein (eosin), which
is.of red color. The air to be investigated, which contains
OF 21 is led through a tube with indicator powder (silica gel
saturated with fluorescein), whereby the initial yellow color
of the powdor grows red * The length of the colored zone is
proportional to the quantity of OF 2' The optimum conditions
of determinationwere found by numerous experiments. The
production of the glass,.tubes containing the indicator powder
is very accurately described in this paper. The standard oon-
ditions worked out for the preparation of the indicator tubes
must be rigidly adhered to because the tube diameter, the
tightness of stuffing, the size of the silica gel particles,
and the concentration of reagents in theabsorbed solution
influence the length of-the colored zone. 1 mm of the tubes
produced in this manner corresponds to O-334rOF2' The manner
in which determination is carried out is described in detail
in this paper. There are 3 Soviet references.,
