Abstract: FAuthors' English summary modified] Filling the large veins with
~T~n_t~~st_material Is considered by the authors to be one of the most suit-
able methods for the examination of pathological processes in the upper-
anterior mediastinum. With the modern contrast media, this method is relative-
ly harmless and, therefore, it is used increasingly in medical practice.
The direct and Indirect signs of expansive (space narrowing) processes are
described and the possibilities of differential diagnosis are outlined. It
is pointed out that, because of various factors, the severity of the clinical
picture does not always correspond to that indicated by the roentgenogram4

Apt is well-known, inoculation of mice with 5. typhosavaccines produce a high de-
gree of antibacterial but not antiendotoxic immunity. For producing a short pro-
tection, which persists 16-24 hr., mice should be inoculated I. p. or t.v. once with
0.3 mg. S. typlusa endotoxin. This makes mice resistant against challenge with
2-6 LDSO doses of homologous and heterologous endotoxins. Protection against
exotoxins from Sh. dysenteriae, Cl. perfringens, Cl. tetani does not exist.

The reactions caused by the precipitaied'extract typhoid vaccine now in common
use in Hungary were compared in 1719 subjects not inoculated before, 797 who
were once and 808 who were 3-4 times inoculated. In the latter group there were
5 times more severe infiltrations than in the group of previously unvaccinated per-
sons. The percentage of severe infiltrations in the different groups increases with
age. In the severity of reactions after typhoid vaccine inoculations allergy appar-

The reaction of psychiatric patients to ixirenternl injection of typhoid antigens is
lower than that of healthy individuals. In psychiatric patients over 20 yr. of age the

Abstract : The mixture of 4 moles of acetone and 1 mole of CH20
(40%-ual solution) is brought to pH from 8 to 9 with
1 n. NaOH and left to season 4.5 hours at 25 to 32P;
it is neutralized with HC1, acetone is distilled off
at the temperature up to 900, after which the rest is
distilled with ZnCl2 (1% of ZnCl per initial acetone)
at 150 to i6oo and at 18oO in the end. The distillate
is fractionated in a colum, the fraction with the

TITLE: Electron microscopic investigation of polyvinyl chloride

TEXT: The morphological characteristics of the polyvinyl chloride M
structure were studied. Films of 1 without packing were produced for
observation under an electron microscope. A 0-5% solution of pure I in
specially rectified dichloro ethane was dropped onto a water surface. A
laminated fibrillar structure of I films was observed; this had also been
shown by Kargin and Bakeyev '(see RZhKhim, no. 19, 1957, 63698). Fibrils
(F) are bandlike formations whose widths vary within wide limits. The
individual F are heterogeneous formations consisting of other, smaller F
with the same direction. The narrowest F are 70-80 ~ wide. The existence
of a mutually regular arrangement of macromolecules up to micelles and F
was assumed; therefore, the F must not be regarded as disordered molecular
