TITLE: The use of butyl rubber in heat-resistant rubbers
PERIODICAL: Kauchuk i rezina, no. 9, 1961, 53 - 56
TEXT: Results are submitted from the Leningradskiy shinnyy
zavod (Leningrad
Tire Plant) on a thermo-resistant rubber formulation
developed there, based on
butyl rubber and to be used for boiling chambers and
diaphragms of vulcanization
molds. An experimental batch of bicycle boiling chambers
has also been produced
under industrial conditions. The disadvantage of mixtures
with paraquinonedioxime
is pointed out as being the elevated tendency of the latter
to scorching [Ref. 3:
Polysar Handbook, v. 1, Sarnia Polymer Corporation, 1956V
Ref. 4; Sinteticheskiy
kauchuk pod red. G. S. Uitbi (Synthetic rubber edited by G.
S, Uitbij Goskhimiz-
dat, 1957, p. 848]. Phenol-formaldehyde resins-101-K
(Soviet) and Super-Bekacite
1001(GFR) were used in the experiments as the vulcanizing
agents and dehydrated,
chemically pure zinc chloride -V*;~-3 used as the
activator. The latter caused a drop
in the physico-mechanical properties of the rubber and
elevated scorching due to
unsatisfactory distribution of ZnC12- More positive results
were obtained by using

The use of butyl rubber In heat-resistant rubbers A051/A129
an 80% aqueous solution of ZnC12- It was established that an
increase in the ac-
tivator dose increases the tendenoy.to scorching. The
optimum dose thus selected
was 1.5 W.P. of ZnC12 to 100 w.p. of rubber. Rubbers based
on butyl raw material
and vulcanized with phenolformaldehyde resins surpass
ordinary sulfurous vulcani-
zates in thei- heat-resistance and durability to repeated
deformations. Their
technologies properties when atomizing the mixtures are
quite satisfactory. A
rational and convenient method for introducing tue mixture
of ZnC12 Into the rubber
mixer has been developed in the form of an 80% aqueous
solution, which ensures
good distribution of the accelerator in the mixture.
Obtained laboratory results
of the rubber tests and the wide application of the
experimental 'batch of the
boiling chambers indicates the future possibility of
manufacturing heat-resistant
rubbers in industry based on buty! rubber and using
phenolformaldehyde resins of
the resol type as the vulcanizing agents. There are 2 tables
and 6 references- 4
Soviet-bloc and 2 non-Sodet-bloc. The references to the

tions read as follows- Rabb. World, 129, no. 3, 348 (1953);

Title I. M. Se.chenov-originator of the theory of the
composition of alveolar
air
Periodical Fiziol. zhur. 40, 540-554, Sep-Oct 1954
Abstract Discusses Sechenov's theory of the composition of
alveolar air, as
expressed in mathematical equations vhich permit calculation of
the
composition and partial pressure of gases in the alveolar air
and
vhich, predict their change vith changing conditions of
respiration.
DeriVes Sechenov's law on composition of alveolar air, examining
change in volume Of 02, N2, and C02, in alveolar air during one
res-
piratory cycle and after "n" respiratory cycles. Also discusses
Sechenov's findings on the effect Of C02 On the regulatory
mecha-
nisms of respiration, effects produced by varying the
composition
of inhaled air, and changes produced in composition of alveolar
air
by breathing compressed and rarefied air. Graphs. Nine

On the basis or experience with 225 examinations the above
is recommended as a
safe method, which may be included among
standard methods of examination. The
p
technique (fluoroscopic

the
general pathological picture are described. Individual
pathological manifesta-

Tfits paper is based on 450 percutaneous splenographles in
patients with spleno-
megaly. The authors describe the various splenoporlographic
appearances in re-
lation to the autiology of the splenornegaly. Splenomegalies
are divided into 4
autiological groups: The first comprises cases in which the
enlargement is due to
a systemic disease, e. g. the leukaernlas. polycythaernia, I
mphogranuloma. In
y
this group the characteristic findings consist of dilated,
elongated. tortuous splenic
and portal veins, absence of collateral circulation, and
normal or slightly accoler-
nted flow with dilution of the contrast material. The 2nd
group comprises spleno-
megalies due to extrahepatic obstruction of the portal vein,
e. g. congenital block,
thrombosis, extrinsic pressure. The splenoportographic
findings in this group are
block, dilatation, slow now, collateral circulation,
displacement and compression
of the affected veins. The 3rd group consists of
splenomegalies due to intrahepatic
block. The characteristic disturbance is found In the
appearance and distribution
of the intrahopatic branches of the portal vein. The portal
and splenic veins are
dilated according to the degree of intrahepatic obstruction.
the same being true for
the state of the collateral circulation. The 4th group
comprises splenornegalies due
to turnours and trauma. In the 450 splenoportographies, 3
complications were ob-
served: one patient had a rupture of the spleen,
necessitating splenectomy, and 2
others had moderate (100-200 ml. I. p. bleeding. This paper
is well-documented
