Describes exptl use of a new drug, I (5-hydroxy-
methyl-4-methyluracyl), synthesized in the lab Of
Prof N.V. Lazarev. I is used primarily in the'
treatment of leukopenia. An average dosage of:
0.2 fg? I three times a day produced an increase
in leucocytes (granulocytes). I was found 'ef -
fective in cases of Pinctional -Ii.sturbances, and

blood-forming organs. no marked toxic effects. of

ABSTRACT: An electrically driven rotatable crane, type TK-52, des-
igned at the "Tsentroenergomontazh" Plant is describedq which
is mounted on a standard tractor. Layout drawings and exter-
nal views are shown. The load capacity varies from 5 tons at
;) m overhang of the derrick down to 2 tons at 1 m overhang.
The total weight is 18 650 kg and the winch motor power is
25 k#. The lifting speed is 6 .'.4 m/min', The crane rotates
at a rate of 1 rpm and the total traverse of the range of
overhang takes 27 see. There are 3 illustrations, including
2 photographs.

ABSTRACT: According to USSR aviation code, flights are carried out according to
echelons established beforehand for all airlines. These echelons are
fixed according to barometric heights beginning with sea level where the
pressure is assumed to be 760 mm.; these echelons run in 300 m. intervals
in height. The altitude of each isobaric surface over which flights are
realized can be determined by means of radio altimeter or barometric
height indicator. In the first case, the height of the isobaric surfaces
over aky given point is apparently equal to the indications of the radio
altimeter at the moment the aircraft flies over a given point. The radio
altimeter measures the actual altitude of flight over a given locality
(but not the absolute altitude) and it is necessary to add to its indica-
tion the excess of a point above sea level. The altitude of the point
can be known beforehand or deduced from the flight chart. Low altitude
radio altimeters (1200 m) allow the height of the isobaric surface to be
determined with an accuracy of up to tl.5 m. During flights in mountain-

ABSTRACT: Three methods of chemical dressing of Mn ores by leaching
are tested: 1) H?S04, 2) SOZ, and 3) (NH4)ZS04' It is shown
that concentrates containing 52.2, 58, and 50%, respectively,
with yields of 27.9, 23.6, and 2576, may be obtained. The pre-
sence of large amounts of Ca in the ore necessitates an ele-
vated consumption of leaching agents.

TITLE: Meteorological-Service for Tu-104 Flights (Meteorologicheskoye
obsluzhivaniye Poletov TU-104)

ABSTRACT: The article deals with the latest developments in the meteo-
rological service connected with the Introduction of high-
speed jet airliners. Some aerometeorological stations, the
AMSGJ, are equipped with radio teletypes. Air transparency
recorders are used along the runways. Recorders for the
overcast ceiling are in the testing stage. Radar is used more
extensively for weather reconnaissance from sonding aircraft.
Scientific research institutes of the Hydrometeorological
Service have made studies of flight conditions in the troposphere
and the lower levels of the stratosphere, partly in cooperation
with the State Scientific Research institute (GosNII) of the
GVF. These studies have resulted in better knowledge of icing,
bumpiness, dispersion of fog and thunderstorms. New instructions
for meteorologists and recommendations for pilots have been
issued. The aerometeorological stations also have done much

to study the conditions of low overcast, fogs and strong winds,
the results of which studies are used at the Khabarovsk,
Krasnoyarsk, Kazan', and other airports. Further, a number of
organizational measures for speedier processing and distribution
of data are discussed. The text is accompanied by a photograph
showing V. Popov., Engineer of the Central Aerometeorological
Station of Vnukovo airport, at the RP-2 air transparency recorders.

under clouds. The height of the lower and upper limits of clouds is detemined

members is described. It is used by military units for loading and unloading railway
freight cars. It consists of a vertical supporting girder (1700 mm high, 2980 mm. long)
