Conse- quently two diesel generators with a power of 200 kw apiece must operate under sail- ing conditions at a load of 40-60% which means unstable generator operation and con- stant duty for electricians which cannot be allowed on modern ships. When the vacuum pump (suction of air) is connected the luminescence solution penetrates into the interior of the vessel, where these places may be determined by means of a quartz lamp or an ultra- violet radiator. Coating with the luminescent solution can be carried out on endangered points or also in parts. In order to avoid possible "wrong signals" caused by an unforeseen deposit on the interior walls of the vessel to be investigated, the applica- tion of 11 lumogen-o range" is recomended which radiates a particu- lar color, so that mistakes are excluded.
