compressible, infinitely conductive ideal fluid in a uniformly constamt magnetic

(x axis), and solves the problem by the method of separation of variables. In
cases where R is linear in z or inversely proportional to.z, the problem is
completely solved, yielding the result that the intensity of the magnetic field

roads wed primarily for the transportation of lumber in Belorussia. Studies of the
physico-sechanical properties of soils treated by liquid bitumen, cement, lime, and
peat show that a mixture of sandy soil and peat produces the highest degree of durabi-
ty at a ratio of 30% peat to the weight of soil in dry weather conditions. This dur-
gility is Increased by the addition of 15-20% of lime or 10-15% of cement, depending
4ii the granulametric composition of the soil; when the soil is saturated by moisture,
b"Ver, the durability considerably decreases. The greatest durability was obtained
fiam I sand-gravel mixtures with a ratio of 40% of gravel to 50% of sandy soil. The

ADSTPACT: To obtain moz Information an the band structure and -on the mechwdsm, of
impurity conductivity of telluriwi,, the authors measured the electric conductivity
and the Hall coefficient of tellurium doped vith thsl]Lium. fn view of the low solu-
bility of thallium in tellu ium, the impurity concentration was determined by a zuao-
active tracer method. The appratus and technique used to grow the telluriAni singii'
mystals were described elsewhere (Pribory i tekhn. cKparimenta no. 5. 172j, 3961).
Me measurements were made by a standard mathod in the temperature interval 77.- 530K#
bkYth in the direction of the principal axis of the crystal and perpendicular to it..
The results show that the Hall ccefficientis independent of the direction of the
crystallographic.- axes$ but the electric conduaUvity la. In spite of the. a4mi I ity

TEXT: The authors describe a further step in their investigations on
esters of carboxylic acids of 2-hydroxyethylamines and its derivatives. They
succeeded in synthesizing a) N-bia-(21-hydroxyetliyl)-2-aminoethyl p-nitrolyin-
zoate and its hydrochloride, and b) hydrochloride of N-bis-(21-chloroethyl)-
2-aminoethyf p-nitrobenzoate. These syTitheses were not described yet in
chemical scientifie'literature. The results of quantitative analysis of all
compounds obtained are in agreement with theoretical assumptions. There are
2 tables and 2 referencest 1 Polish and 1 English.

TEXT: While investigating the action of acid chlorides on triethanol-
amine,.1 a new compound, the hydrochloride of triethanolamire of tri-o-chloro-
benzoate was obtained. It was not described yet in chemiCt%l Bcientifical
literature. It cristallizes in the form of colourless plal-.es with 97-980C
melting temperaturea It dissolves eauily in aoeL~;zs, methanol and ethanolp
sparingly in benzene and in water and is not soluble in ether. Quantitative
analysis and molecular weight are in agreement with theoretical figures.

The concentration of the ketone bodies in the blood was determined in normals and
in patients suffering from: (1) peptic ulcer; (2) essential hypertension; (3) hyperthy-
roidism; (4) neutral goitre after: (a) 3 dayaketogenic diet, (b) 36 hr. starvation,
(c) operative procedures. There was it great increase of the ketone bodies In hyper-
thyroldism and hypertension, a slight one in peptic ulcer, and the concentrAtion

A study on 152 physicians was carried out. The age ranged from 24 to 64 yr. The
time of professional work ranged frorn 2 to 30 yr. Among the individuals, IG"j'a
presented chronic myocardusis. 5% hypertension of the first degree, 3.31% hyper-
tension of the second degree, 1.416 hypertension of the third degree, 2% coronary
artery disease, 3.3% neurovegetative dystony. The most frequently encountered
diseases among physicians were degeneration of the myocardium and hyperten-
sion. Coronary artery disease was not encountered frequently. Surgeons were
affected more frequently by diseases of the circulatory system than their col-
leagues in other Oranches of medicine. (VI. 17)

Abstract Herbicides (especially butyl ether - 2,4-D, and also
chloro IFK) are an effective means of controlling the
bulrush (Polloyhoenus naritimus). The higher the dasa,~e
of the herbicides, the higber their destructive effect:
with 2,4-D doses of 1, 1.5 and 2 kilograms/ha, 84.5,
89.4 and 92.6% of the weeds respectively, here destroyed
and injured. However, the large doses of herbicides, par-
ticularly of 2,4-D, produce a nec~ative effect on the rice
crop. In snall doses, herbicides act as growth aceelera-

ABSTRACT: The method adopted at the nizhne-Tagillsk Metallurgical
Combine for constructing a new reheating furnace without dis-
turbing the foundations of the existing one or of the supporting
column is outlined. A truncated open and bottopless box
23184 x 9316 mm external dimensions (Fig.2) of tape 140 heat-
resisting reinforced concrete with sharp wall bottbms was placed
in the partly-dug foundations and loaded. Thet,walls were built
up by concreting and when this had set the str4eture was loaded
with blooms. Soil was removed from under the v~alls and inside
the box and the box descended. For effecting r~quiredlaltera-
tions in roller tables new tables were mounted,14 a special
bridge. Design of the equipment was carried oul by the-Stall
pzoyekt organisation and the local team of the 4-promes,
organisation. Construction was by the Tagil' strj trust-.azd,..

emitted by that scintillator may bedetermined only by measuring the luminesceince
spectrum, spectral sensitivityof the photocathode which detects the radiation, and
spectral coefficient of absorption of the scintillator material throughout the en-
tire range of wavelengths emitted by the scintiliator. An experimental method is
described for direct detemination of the "effective" coefficient of absorption. The
transmittance of a-stimulated light is measured in long cylinders of scintillation
plastic. In a second set of experiments, the transmittance of light stimulated by a
collimated beam of -1-iwys is wasived. The results are given in graphic form. A
formula Is derived ft, the tranmdssion factor as a function of length. Orig. art.
