ABSTRACT: Male rats (97 experimental and 77 control.) were exposed to temperatures of
50-520C at a relative humidity of 6-8% and ganglionic block was induced by hexametho-
cium administered intramuscularly (10 mg/kg). Observations of body weight, respira-
tory rate, rectal temperature, oxygen consumption, glycogen levels in liver and muscle
tissues, ascorbic acid levels in the adrenal glands, and survival time are presented
in tabular form. it was found that with hexamothocium, aurvival. time was increased
while 02 consumption and the rate of increase in body temperature were reduced. In
the initial phave of exposure, relatively high glycogen levels in the liver and mus-
cle tissues and ascorbic acid levels in the adrenal glands were maintained; these

Abstract The surface water of the Kopet-Dag valley plain is clas-
sittied., according to its salt contents and degree of
mineralization, into waters which are mineralized (2-9
grams per liter), chlorine-sulfate and fresh waters
(I gm./L. and less) and chloride-carbonate alkaline wa-
ters. These waters are produced directly in the valley;
their chemism depends on the soil and plant covering of

the waterhead. This is stipulated for the upper part
of the plain on the mineralized products of such plants
as the Ba&khyz vorivood (Artemisia), nead.ow grass (Roa)
and mixed ephemeral grasses., rich in K, S102, Ca and to
a lesser degree in Mg. C1 and Na. In the central m-id to
some extent the lower part of the plain., the algacs
play a specific role in forming the vater coriposition.
They assimilate carbon dioxide dissolved in the water
and emit 0. The process of photosynthesis is accompa-
nied by a reduction in the partial pressure of C02, a
shift in the carbonate balance) the precipitation of
carbonates and the alkalization of the solutions. When
the solution was sterilized, the pH values did not chan-
ge, alkalinity from C03 was absent, the water saturation
of 02 remained unifoinaly under 1(X)%, changing only in
relation to the teraperature of the solution. The increa-
se in the sum of anions through alkalinity with an

unvaried sum of cations from the beginning to the end
of the experiment and the rise in dissolved organic
matter content allow a hypothesis to be advanced about
tAie al3mline nature of algae excretion during their life-
times The discrepancy between the curves of the forward
and reverse potentiometrical titration points out the
dependence of takyr water alkallni-ty not only on ions of
carbonic acid, but also on other ccmpounds (silicates,
orgnnic compounds).

plain). Observations showed an increase in the amount of Op and

phatosynthesis process; absolute value of total Wtalinity (TA.)

ABSTRACT: The authors describe an eddy-current flaw detector with contact-type
pickups (type VTDN-1), intended to disclose externalcracks, beads, film, deep
scratches, hairlines and other defects on the outer surface of hot-rolled ferromag-
netic pipes. The secondary-field indicator is a resonant pickup which is placed in
contact with the pipe and which consistc of a pair of coils. During the test, the
pickup rotates around the linearly-moving pipe, thereby scanning the investigated
surface along a helical line. The signals from the pickup are detected with a7 reso-
nant amplifier. The operating principle is based on eddy currents induced in the
pipe and an automatic conparison of two adjacent sections of the surface by two pipes,
