III. Structural Changes in Ultrathin Lay*riv
oleic acid and orucic acid, insoluble in water, wore used as
benzene solutions. Por the method used in the experiments, see
reference 1. After the evaporation of the anhydrous phase a
silk thread thinly coated with paraffin, was put on the brine
surface. The developed film was compressed by moans of-castor
oil. The outline of the compressed film was copied on paper
and computed.by means of graph paper. The results of the ox-
periments are given in figures 1-3- It can be seen that in the
course of time, the surface free from the film grows at the
expfuse of thi size of the area covered by the layer. At first
this dovelopm:nt progresses quickly, but then it slow& down
&kid finall stops altogether: the film reaches its limit sur-
face (S - ~. The authors hold the opinion that the change of
the film area,in in close-connoction with the change of its
structure. On the strsngth of the meanaremonts of the film are%
the authors tend to hold tho o2inion that In the course of time,
a separation of the thin surface layer takes place: on the one

Table 3 shows the results achieved after the two montioned ac-
ids had been added. Erucic acid increases the speed constant
much more than oleic acid does. There are 6 figures, 3 tables,

ABSTRACT: The mechanism of c-atalysisqby metals able to assume several
valences, of liquid-phase oxidation reactions has been studied. The
formation of free radicals by a reaction between styrene, oxygen, and
Co(II) was established. The reaction was carried out with Co(II) ss
the stearate or the acetylace-tonate in organic-solvent solution at
115C in the presence of an inhibitor (a-naphthylamine). The reaction
kinetics were studied and a reaction mechanism was proposed. The
rate of formation of free radicals was determined from the rate of
consumption of the inhibitor, on the assumption that two free radical:
conse,cutively react with one inhibitor molecule. The reaction mecbanismi

crystals are homogenous both on inveatigation in the ultracentrifuge and
,in electrophoretic studies on an agar gol. 7he sedimentation constant
.calculated from sedimentation cwryee,p 7 0. The pH optimin of crys-
-talline glucosooxidase action is 3.6--5,11? 1h; enzyme is strictly specific
'with respect to f -~gluaose. In the abi3ence of sulmtrates cryistalline
glucosooxidase preserves its fuLL activity after 1!* minutes henting at pH
4.0 to 50P. Enzyme activity is inhibiti)d by sulfh.3~dryl and carbonyl toxinsY.
The inhibition of its activity by siAMydryl toxin is competitive with reD- T

Abstract : Description of the technology of production of refraritory
concrete (RC) utili?ed since 1955 at two plants of RPR.
Experience with the use of RO has shown that PC consis-
ting of Portland cenent, brands 300 and 400, with an ad-
dition of 30% of the so-called "ceramic stabilizer" (CS)
(15-30%) and as a filler (85-700,;) of rt-d brick waste or
chanotte, can . - - serve au a successful substitute of cha-
motte brick in lining nost industrial furnaces for tem-
peratures up to 9000. As "stabilizer" are utilized

rite etc.) up to a temperature of 15000. RC with aluuina
cerient (10-259') and chni~,otte fi.Uer (90-75%) haying a re-
fractivity of > 17200 cEn be used up to 14000, and on
using basic, refractory fillers, and also of calcined bau-
xite or chrorute, ul) to 1550'. Ifeat insuliating RC of
Portland cement and CS or aluLdna coment and a filler of
calcined dia'Lomita, having a volixietric weight of 1-1,3
g/cc, can be used up to 11000 as substitute of light-
weight refractories-
