TITLE: Investigation of the Nitration of Hydrocarbons of the
Cyclopentane Series in the Vapor Phase. III, Nitration of
Propyl Cyclopentane I

TEXTs The present paper is a continuation of the authors' investigations
on the subject mentioned in the title. The nitration of propyl cyclo- 0 X/
pentane, which was prepared synthetically, was carried out at 340-400 C V
using 68% HNO 3* Details are given in Ref. 1. In the present paper, the
authors clarified the dependence of the yield of nitro compounds on the
reaction temperature, the hydrocarbon / HNO 3 ratio, and the time of
contact of the reagents. Results are shown in Table 1. From this it is
evident that the highest yield at molal ratios of propyl cyclopen-
