AbstrF.ct: Data are presented and analyzed for a number of
in norted bulls, tested j_n their offspring . by comparison of
the production of their offspring with that of contemporaries.
It was found that although all the bulls came from lines of
excellent producers, they were not all able to transmit their
good characteristics. It is sugges-ted that all breeding bulls
be introduced to reproduction at an early age, obtaining 15 to
20 offspring - in production which could be tested prior to exten-
sive use of the animal; the importance of using offspring
testing as a supplement to lineage information is stressed.

ABSTRACT: The polymerization of butadiene in benzene solution in the presence of
catalyst systems consisting of an alcohol complex of cobalt chloride (CoC3-2.xCc,
1150H) and of diisobutylalminum chloride (AlR2cl) - was studied to determine the-
relationship between the rate of polymerizatioa,, molecular wolight, and micro-
structure of.the polymer and the coneentration of the catalysts and their ratio.
It was found that water has a strong influence on polymerization rate and mole-
cular weig)at. In the absence of water only a small anount of very low molecular

weight polymer is formed. With increasing amounts of water the molecular weight
increases since water limits the chain termination reaction. However, the water
also reacts with the components of the catalyst system, decreasing the effective
concentration of the catalyst, and thus decreasing polymerization rate. The
polymerization rate increases 'nit' proportionally to the increase in
COC -XCE OH concentration, then reaches a limit. The limit is lower with a
Bier Rial. H20 concentration. The yolybutadiaae molecular weight increases
as the concentration of either of the catalyst components decreases. The data
is insufficient to prove the nature of the complex cobalt polymerization process.
It is concbided,, however., thei it is impossible to detemin the true mechan' sm
of this type of process without considering the significant role that water plays.

Abstract The toxic effect of 12% BHC dust and 5.5%
DDT dust on horseflies of the genus Chryso-
zona, Tabanus, and Chrysops has been inves-
tigated. The sensitivity of Chrysozona
appears greater than that of Tabanus and

by a factor of 3-4.

nerated ash concrete based on slag portland cement was developed by the Novo-
kuznetsk Branch of the Ural Scientific Research Institute of Reinforced Concrete
and introduced at the Kuznetsk Prefabricated Frame and Panel Housing Factory.
Slag portland was used for this purpose, since it J,s inexpensive and produced
from acid blaot-furnace slags of the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Combine by a number
of plants in West Siberia. AS for the ash, it is provided by the adjacent elec-
tric power stations. Owing to a number of technological factors: a sound granu-,
lometric composition or tba.system: binder plus ash, optimal addition of lime
.to binder, and replacement of steaming of panels by their contact heating on
production stands, the moisture) content and shrinkage of this concrete were
markedly reduced. Wall panels fabricated from this concrete display high techni-

Abstract: Special aspects of the psychological ap?roach to the
clyspn;'a-pro6lem are discussed. Nychological factors causing
dyspnea are described; the effect of strong emotions on dyspnea
is evaluated. Some special forms of dyspnea resulting from
psychological disturbances and possible mechanisms of these
diseases are discussed. The use of psychological means in differen-
tial diagnosis of dyspnea is described. Recommended therapeutic
methods in the treatment of such diseases are evaluated- 5 Tables,

TEXT: The Eethod of determining nuclear spins from tha spectra of
Y-rays resulting from the capture of resonance neutrons is particularly
good if a radiative transition from an excited to the ground level is
possible only for a single spin value of the excited state. This method
has been used (Refs. 1-4) for the determination of the spin of a number
of levels of Hg199 and W183.. The nucleus of the platinum isotope
inves--t-ligated here is even-even~ and has the spin 1/2. The experimental
arraugement is shown in Fig. 1. A cyclotron supplied neutron pulses of
2-3 /Asec. The energies of the neutrons were measured by time-of-flight
mea.iurements. The r .-rays resulting from the neutron capture were

Otected by two NaI(Tl) c.-yetals and a photomultiplier of the type
~A~' -24 (FEU-24). The gamma detectors were shielded by lead and boron
carbide. The crystals were shielded from the neutrons scattered by the
sample by a 2 cm thick sheet of boron carbide. The pulse height in the
crystal was calibrated by measuring the energy of gamma rays from
Co 60(1 -17 and 1-33 Mev) and Po+Be (4-45 Mev) with a multi-channel pulse-
h6ight analyzer. These experiments show that the Crystals did not have
sufficient resoluticn~ (Fig, 2 shows the calibration curves of the
'Bal(Tl) crystals). The results of measurements of the gamma intensities
as functions of the neutron energies En are tabulated and shown in Fig-3.
The counting rate was so high that, after 2-3 hours, curves with a
statistical accuracy of -3% were obtained. The three diagrams of Fig. 3
show N (E ) for E ) 2 Mev, > 6 Mev, and > 7 Mev. (N is the number of

pulses), The known 2evels (11.9, 19.6, and 68.2 ev) were well resolved
only In the E range of 2-6 Mev.. The 95-ev level belongs to the isotope

interpretations of the spectra are discussed in detail. A total view of
the spectrum is given in Fig. 4. It is found that the gamma intensity of
both levels (11.9 and 19.6 ev) decreases rapidly at high energies. A
comparison of both spectra (Fig. 5) confirms qualitatively the result
earlier obtained, namely, that in the gamma-energy range 6.5-7 Mev, the
intensity of the spectrum for the 19.6-ev resonance falls twice as
strongly as the intensity for the 11.9-ev resonance. There are 5 figures,
