TITLE.* Investigation of D-12 Wind Electric Stations Operating Under Wind Conditions in Caspian Littoral Area (Isaledavaniye VES D-12, rabotayushchikh v usloviyakh vetrovogo rezhima Prikaspiyakoy zony) PERIODICAL: Tr. Energ. in-ta AN AzerbSSR, 1956, Nr 13, pp 141-155 ABSTRACT: In 1949, at the Sangachaly and Yashma railroad stations, two D-12 wind electric stations were built to supply light for the stations and adjacent villages. At SLngachaly, a 120-v DC generator and a 60-cell 400 a-h storage battery are installed. At Yashma, the D-12 drives an At, generator without a standby thermal motor. Five-year operating experience with these stations has shown that D-12 3-blade motorq, at variance with TV-5 and TV-8 multi- blade motors, are entirely suitable for operation under the heavy wind condi- tions in the Caspian littoral area. In 1953, the Yashma station was out of ser- vice only 19 days because of lack of wind; the rest of the time, it supplied Card 1/2 50V/ 11?-58-1-?97 Investigation of D-12 Wind Electric Stations Operating Under Wind Conditions . . . . consumers without interruption. Methods of investigating the D-12 are set forth and measuring instruments are described, including an anemometer, a torque meter, and tachometer with electric pickups, an amplifier, and MPO-Z oscillograph. Special attention is paid to results of investigating D-12 behavior during transient c9nditions that c4used various breakdowns. Os c illographic ally determined were: (I) propeller rotation irregularity, (2) time of windmill acceleration and df celeration, (3) utilization factor of wind energy. Data and functional relationships are supplied f*or plotting &erodynamic and operating characteristics of the D-12 windmill. On the basks of long-time observations of the Sangachaly and Yashma statidns, somf construction$Ll imperfections of various subassemblies have been discovered, mainly the stabilizer regulation system, in the joints between the swiveling parts of vanes with the arms and between the arms and the hub, and also in t" lubricating system. The kinetics of the addition of sulfur and (DBTD) to (APP) were studied (see Fig* 1)., and the inhibiting action of the J synthesized compounds on the thermooxidative destruction of (APP) was determined* The induction periods for oxidation were determined after Yu, A, Shlyapnikov, Vo Be Miller, Me Be Neymans Yee S. The aiddition' I 6-di tiit-1;utyl-4-methy1phenol (ionol) to the product of the interaction of (APP. with sulfur was also determined.. and the experimental results are presented graphically. It was found that the inhibiting activity of the interaction products of (APP) with sulfur and (DBTD) depends on the extent of reaction, the initial products being more active than the final products. The inhibitors are equal in their inhibiting activity to the inhibitor phosphite P-24, Addition of ionol to the mixture of interaction products of (APP)i with sulfur yields an inhibitor of enhanced antioxidant properties (correlated i action)* Orig, art. hast 1 table and 8 graphs. Budapest, A Magyar Tudomanyos Akademia V. Orvosi Tudomanyok Osztalyanak Kozlemenyel, Vol XVII, No 2-3, 1966, pages 209-216. Abstract; The revolutionary changes in virology caused by Enders' work soon became felt in the expansion of virus research in Hungary as well. Extensive studies have been conducted on the evaluation of the effect of polio vac- cination and re-isolation of the vaccine viruses from the feces of the in- oculated. Swine enteroviruses were classified, characterized.and their epi- demiological properties were studied. Adenoviruses are currently studied in detail at 3 medical institutes in connection with the 1961-62 keratocon- junctivitis epidemic. The pathogenic effect of adenoviruses in acute res- piratory and gastrointestinal diseases of newborn cattle was also established. Some parainfluenza'viruses were studied and several hundred strains were isolated and studied with respect to their role in some acute respiratory diseases of infants and small children. Herpes virus research, the problem of interferon, immunity studies with the Aujeszky virus and several others are also mentioned. A revolving microtitrator was also developed which is used with success especially for the titration of the influenza virus. Results of the study of viruses of plants are also discussed in some detail. Vaccines PUNGARY Budapest, A Magyar Tudomanyos Akademia V. Orvosi Tudomanyok Osztalyanak Kozlemenlei, Vol XVII, No 2-3, 1966, pages 209-216. against smallpox and rabies are available; there is a constant need, however, to improve the smallpox vaccine. Vaccines against mumps and influenza are manufactured but the domestic preparation of the measles vaccine remains an unsolved problem. The nature of the hemagglutinating agent, obtained in the course of hepatitis research in Budapest, should be determined and an attempt should be made to reproduce the results at some other institute as well. Research with oncogenic viruses is also in progress although these compara- tively sporadic experiments may fail to bring about decisive results because of the lack of facilities for research. Several other projects are also men- tioned briefly. No references. Abstract: (Authors' English summary modified] Serum samples taken rroa 12 horse breeding stocks were tested for the presence of antibodies against equine influenza A-1 and A-2 viruses by means of the hemagglutination in- hibition test. The sera were tested also with human influenza A-Z and with the Shope virus. Of the total of 835 blood samples, 487 were taken from race horses. Antibodies were found only to equine influenza subtype A-1. In all stocks, the sera of horses over 4 years old had a high antibody titer. Sam- ples taken from 2-3 year old foals were tested in 4 stocks. In 2 stocks which were in contact, nearly one-third of the samples contained antibodies while nearly all samples were negative in the other 2 stocks. The results indicate that infection was very common among horses 4 years ago and such infection also occurs sporadically today. 2 Eastern European, 12 Western references. 61 WAS, L.,; FARKAS, 14-~ Hormonal changes In hAedow's crisis with special reference to adrenal function.
