For example, a 10 to 15%-ual A12(5003 solution was alkalized with soda to the alkalinity of 25 to 34 at 35 to 400 before the tannage; in order to avoid the formation of Al soap, leather should be washed thoroughly before oiling. T h e I n - fluence of dietetic completion of protein on the product- ion of antitoxin in children immunized by tetanus ana- toxin ACTA MICROBIOL. ACAD. SCIENT. HUNG. (Budapest) 1954, 1/4 (445-452) Graphs I Tables I The Influence of dietetic protein completion by highly nutritive protein on the pro- duction of Immune substances in IZ-year-old boys immunized by. tetanus anatoxin is described. (1) It was established that the protein Injected and that given in the diet brought about an Increase in the production of Immune substances in the children concerned, as compared with control children who did not receive add- Itional protein. (2) It was demonstrated that under the conditions of this experi- ment, there was a positive relationship between the ut e of complete protein per I kg. body weight and the quantity of Immune substance produced. A higher util- ization of complete protein caus6s larger serum antitoxin values. (3) When 1.2 to 1.7 g. protein per kg. was administered a massive production of immune sub- stances was observed. (4) A practical conclusion was that, in the course of pro- phylactic injections in children, living on a monotonous diet rich in vegetable pro- tein, t-ompletion by proteins of good quality (eggs, milk, cheese, etc.) 2 to 3 ' weeks before active immunization may enhance the result of the injections - and thus the value of active immunization - to a high degree. In the present experl- mental conditions administration of protein of a good quality was followed by a more massive production of immune substances, and thus probably also by pro- longed immunity. The author discusses the essential difference between swine which are bred for lard and those bred mainly for meat or ham, The economic significance of the correct choice is stressed. Having a slight sedative effect only* and almost no effect on the - autonomic nervous system, Isomethophenazine can be considered - a-phenthiazine derivative with a .potential for selective coronary dilatatory action. Some polymethoxyphon- thiazine derivatives, and some phenthiazine derivatives in combination .with glucose or with sugar alcohols were also prepared in the course of this w6rk. Budapest, Orvosi Hetilap, Vol 107, No 35, 28 Aug 66, pages 1633-1639. Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] Lactose, saccharose, -lucose and, galactose loading tests performed on 62 infants in a state of severe atrophy indicated the presence of lactose malabsorption in one-fourth of the cases. In these cases, the blood sugar curve, after lactose administration, was flat and the fecal pit was lowered. Since the results of glucose and galactose or saccharose loading tests In these cases did not differ greatly from those of the controls, it can be assumed that an elective, acquired damage to the lactase activity is involved. The most frequent and most severe cases of lactose malabsorption were found among those infajits in whom the atrophy was caused by low milk and protein ingestion or by coll infection. These factors appear to be of greater importance in the development of lactose malabsorption than the atrophy of the body itself. Lactose splitting or absorption is one ~of the parameters the repair . of which occurs j> in the course of rehabilitation of these infants. 1 Hungarian, 17 Western references. 1/1 HUNDART MMTUN, Gyula, Dr, JARAI, Istvan, Dr, BATA, Gaza, Dr, Medical University of Pecs, Pediatric Clinic (director Odont Dr) (Pecal Orvostodomanyi Fgyeteml Oyarmokklinika), "The Importance of Skin Temperature In Chemical Thermoregulation of Hypothermic, Immature Infants," ' Budapest, Orvosi Hetilap, Vol 107, No 17, 24 Apr 66, pages 775-779. Abstmetz [Authors' HunGarian summary] The changes in and relationship een b2 consumption and the temperature of the colon, abdomen, skin and forehead were studied at different environmental temperatures in 13 hypothermic, immature infants 1-14 days of age who veighed. 1200-1700 g at birth. The observations led to the following conclusions: 1) Under the experimental conditions used, the hypothermic basal temperature is not a decisive factor in the elioitatXon and maintenance of chemical therno- regulation. 2) In the 1Wpothermio immature infant, chemical thermoregula- tion proceeds at a considerably lower skin temperature 1 m 1 than in the normothersio newborn. It can be assumed that this chanjo in regulation is produced by the hypotherrq itself through functional chugs# either In the peripheral or In the oentral wichanian of thermoreception, I Hungarian, 3 Western referenoes, 39
