problem is a generalization of the problem of diffraction of a plane elastic wave on
a screen in the form of a strip. Parameters of motion of the strip are defined to sa-
tisfy the equations of motion; (3) The problem of the "transparent prism": two elas-
tic (acoustic) media separated by an angular boundary. An effective method is pre-
sented for computing the field diffraction for this problem. The authors thank G. F.

ABSTRACT: A great number of sulfochlorides and thiosulfonic acid esters was reduced

TITLE: Electric Hygrometers(Elektricheskiye vlagomery)
PERIODICALi Zavodskaya Laboratoriya, 1958, Vol 24, Nr 9, PP 1155-1157 (USSR
ABSTRACT. At present the methods of measuring the electric resistance as
well as the capacity are the most spread in measuring the humidi-
ty. The latter are more precise as they are based on the import-
ant difference of the dielectricity constants between pure water
(&e 81) and other substances (F- - 3-5). Among the many methods
of measuring the capacity the high-frequency methods are the most
accurate. To work out devices several high-frequency schemes were
checked in the present case. Two of them are recommended for
measuring the capillary humidity of substances with relatively
low electric conductivity. One of the two diagrams given shows a
hygrometer operating according to the principle of an oscillation
disruption. It contains a quartz generator (with lamp 6S5 ), an
electronic-optical indicator 6E~i , 9nd a rectifier (wita iamp fts5S).
The second diagram shows a hygrometer based ontzero-pulsation"and
operating according to the principle of "oscillation mixing". This
apparatus offers greater possibilities and makes it possible to
Card 1/2 measure 0,01 g water with an accuracy of + 1%. The capacitor-pick-

!ABSTRACT: A digital printout device used in conjunction with the BNP-20 high speed
itypewriter is described. The device has been used in-the control system for the steam
turbine generator of the Staro-Beshevsk State Regional Electrical Power Station. Pap-
ier tape with a width of 80 mm is used to record parameters which are entered in two
;colui.ns in order of increasing numbers. The left column records parameters which de-
~viate from the norm while the right column periodically records an assigned group of
parameters. The time is recorded above the parameter column. Each line shows the
:parameter number Uk-om 000 to 777 using a code with base 8) and a value of the parame-,
;ter (using a decimal code from 000 to 999). The parameters which have deviated are
1recorded while those falling with the permissible rang* of values are omitted. In or-
'der to save time and to decrease the dimensions of the forn, the deviated parameters
Ican be recorded without providing'ampty spaces for the omissions. When compiling re-

ABSTRACT: A derivatographic investigation was made of several derivatives of
synthetic zeolites of types A and X after they had been subjected to ion exchange.A
On the basis of the derivatograms it was established that the-amowit and heat of
bonding of the equilibrium water content, bound by adsorptiono are considerably
invluenced by the nature of the exchanging ion. When the ionic charge on the
exchanging ion is identical, the amount and heat of bonding of the equilibrium
water content, bound by adsorption, decrease with increasing ionic radius, while
they increase with increasing ionic charge in the presence of comparable ionic
radii. The thermal atabi3ity of the crystals is also influenced by the nature of
the exchanging ion in such a manner that the thermal stability of the crystal lattice
of the zeolite type diminishes with the decrease in the diameter of the exchanging
ion. Orig. art. has: 18 figures. (Based on authors? Eng. abst.] [JPRS: 33P5401

ABSTRACT: The derivatographic properties of hexachloroethane, hexachlorobutadiene,
octachlorocyclopentene and hexachlorocyclopentadiene have been studied.- Conclusions
are drawn from the DTG curves of these compounds for the boiling points, that
deviate from the real value by no more than 20-25*0 when the experimental conditions

This study of physiological responses of the organism to enviro.--imental conditions
7-
was carried out as a preliminary to an investigation of hormonal effects. The meta-
od consisted in studying conditioned reflexes and the state of excitability of the
elements constituting the reflex arc. It was found that in the rabbit the capacity
for fixation of conditioned intestinal motor reflexes is greater during the summer.
In the hot season there is an increased responsivity to ACh in the interoceptors and
nerve centres in the reflex arc and in the cold season a decrease of this excitability,
whereas the effector organ (intestine) is less excitable in summer and more so in
winter. Supplementary investigations showed that these changes are produced by
predominantly nervous mechanisms. The observed an-:agonism between the exci-
tability of the centres and that of the effector organ is considered to be part of the
nervous mechanism whereby the organism adapts itself to the environment. In
conclusion it is pointed out that seasonal influences must be taken into consider-
ation in the study of reactivities of organs and tissues and that an analytic and
synthetic study of the visceral reflex arc must be included in the investigations.

Abstract : The effects of chlorpromazine (C) upon -the vasa were
studied on dogs by way of perfusion of -the organs with
preserved innervation and by recordinG the blood pressu-
re during the intravenous administration of C. In nar-
cotized dogs, C produced a strong dilatation of the ves-

crease of blood pressure. Li non-narcotized animals,
hypotonia was less marked. This is connected with the
effect of C on the LlOchanisms regulatin~i, the levels of
