being an arbitrary real number).
Here P_ denotes the apace of the n-dimensional vectors X with the
n
excluded point 0; Z(S) is a random measure in P_ , F(S)
= M 1 Z(3) 1 .
Theorem 1 gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the regularity
of a field.
For several special random fields one obtains explicite extrapolation
formulas by reducing the extrapolation of the fields to the extrapola-
tion of the processes.

ABSTRACT: The random field u(t :K), which is a solution of the wave eqaation,,,
is rtpresented an the sum of two uncorrelated stationar/ processes. Under an
assumption of argod1city, and under the assumption that the field is known in
a semi-infinite strip,, beat linear extrapolation formulas in the mean square sense.,
and corresponding mean square arrors, are derived for values of the field outside
ithe strip. Orig. art. has,, 16 formulae and 1 figure.

the statistical characteviotics of the moot iwpurtant meteorological field, the

of these data for the purpose of an objective analysis of meteorological charts
and the solution of certain problems arising in numerical forecasting by the
solution of the differential equations of hydrothermodynamics. In i3ection 2 the
results obtained in those studies are considered in greater detail. It is noted
that in all earlier studies the aulthors considered the geopotential field only
from a two-dimensional point of view H(x, y, t). In this study the author makes
a three-dimensional study, using f71Ve isobaric surfaces (1000, 850, 700, 500 and
300 mb), and computes 15 correlation functions. The method. for smaDthing the
functions is described' followed by their analysis. Particular attention is
~given to a comparison of correlation functions corresponding to five different
levels. The analysis yielded information on the mean longl'tudinal values of
dispers.ion for all five levels. Crig. art. has: 15 formulas, 5 figures and 2

Title I Radio com=ication and radio broadcasting in the Soviet Union
Periodical i Vest. avyazi 5, 3-5, May 1955
Abstract i The role of radio as the only media of comrminication with northern, and
farm-eastern regions of the USSR is stressed, and a general description
of the successive steps in the development of radio communication and
radio broadcasting$ is given. In addition, the article also relates
that in recent years, new types of radio transmitters were produced by
the industry. Namely$ the KV-678j KV-5, PK-2, and FK-4, and that 300p
000 television setii or the type "Tempt', "Avangard", and "Sever" were pro-
duced in 1954. Numes of several Soviet scientists and engineers who con-
tributed to the above mentioned develo=ents are listed. Illustrations.

ABS'.'L-.UXCT: On 28 I-lay at the Koscm-T Telovision Corrtor there was a demonstra-
tion of reception of color TV. It was transmitted from Paris via the
Soviet satellite "Molni -111 This was the result of an agreement con-
cluded between France aya thVUSSR in March 19055 for cooperation in the
nd
joint development of a system for transmission of color televisionO. A
test run of the satellite system was made in Nove-mb-e-r-1955-w-TE-htVa~s-
m.ssion of a progran from Moscow to Paris. On 28 Ylay the TV images were
transmitted along a cable to a large antenna situated outside Paris and
then to the Soviet satellite, w1iich carries a powerful 40-W transmitter.
The transaission was received over a wide area. It was received near
Moscow and transmitted by land line to the Moscow Television Center.

,to have regular black-and-white and color TV transmission between the
USSR and France via the I'Molniyall satellite* 7he sound accompaniment
,for the program was fed along a land cable. For regular transmissions
it will be necessary to arrange simultaneous transmission of sound and
'picture via the satellite as is now done for black and white transmission*'
This problem now is being solved by Soviet and French scientists, fJPRS: 36,53f

ABSTRACT:
The construction and oreration of a self-quenching G=M counter for
measuring radioactivity of 14C in organic compounds, converted to C02o is
described. The gtatiatical error involved in measuring specifi,2 activities of the
order of 5 x 10- Aclmg was less than 1%. Orig. art. has:2 figures and 2 tables.
