TITLE: Induction heating of extrusion press chambers by main fre-
quency current

TEXT.- To close a gap in technical literature, empirical designing
specifications are given for 50-cYcle induction heating of extrusion press
chambers, illustrated with a jacket-contained, opil designed and built by
the authors for a 1,000 ton extrusion press. Power requirements were estab-
lished according to the specific heat calculus With appropriate allowance
for power and heat losses. The coil of the experimental heater was. made of
copper wire 18.0 mm. in diameter, insulated with 3.5 mm thick mica foi I
designed to stand a load of 1-5 kA and a current density of 5-10 A/mm at
temperatures up to 5000C. The coil was powered by a 45 kVA transformer,
primary winding:380 V, secondary winding 90 V in stops of 15 V, current load

.~from 20 to 350oC and a heating duration of about 8 hours were: useful power

TEXT: The problem of regulating the tension of-a 41 mm thick strip has
been considerably simplified by the indirect measurement of the tension.(meas-
uring the current power of the armature of the drum dri've,etc.). In the de-
scribed scheme of the device for indirect tension and strip control there are
two main units; 1) the armature current control;, 2).control of the motor volt-
age in accordance with the rolling speed. The devioe.includes an asynchronous
motor, the rolling mill motor, the reeler motor, the inertia motor; the main,
auxiliary and tachogenerator motors; the main and auxiliary exciting dynamos;
the main exciting dynamo coil control; compensation, pomparison, master amd

exciting coils, and a series of resistances. A device is described for the
direct measurement of-the strip tension. In this case the strip bends around
three tension rolls, which are arranged at a definite angle. The tension force
is measured with induction tensometrical or compensation methods. The main de-
ficiency of the method using tension rolls, is the difference in the mechantcal
properties of the strip and its partial plastic deformation, since the strip is
not absolutely elastic. The magnitude of errorin the method is about 3%. In
contactless automatic control of the strip thickness, a bundle of beams from
radioactive isotopes passes through the strip and partially loses its intensi .ty~.
The beams passed through the strip, fall upon a detector and produce an electric
signal which is amplified in the amplifier and is then supplied to the control
device. Depending on the magnitude of deflection of the strip thickness, the
control device supplies the corresponding pulse to t~c clamping-screw drive of
the mill. To eliminate the frequent interferences in the mill operation by the
control device, the latter does not react'to short-time deflections of the strip
from a thickness of a definite magnitude. A description is given of the device
controlling the tension and thickness of the strips where the strip thickness is
measured by the described method with the use of isotopes, It is mentioned that

deflections from the strip width can be rapidly eliminated by varying theten-
Sion. The device operates with about'4% accuracy at about 26% deflection of the
thickness before the rolls. The strip width is 90.mm. At a grer-ter strip width,
i. e. at an increased power of the mill drive, the device. will operate less ac-
curately, but it is assumed that it will.be possible to roll strips with up to,
about 5% tolerances after perfectioning the device, A short description is'
presented of a program-control reveysing strip-rolling mill, based on -the pumh6d
card system. Light is passed through-the perforations in the cards and falls
upon a photodiode, where electric current is generated which, after amplifica-
tion, is supplied to the corresponding devices.:

Abstract : The daily content of glycoiSen in the liver of white mle
mice (80) was determined in the summer and in the fall.,
the diet and the.laboratory conditions being normle
every 3 hours., 5 animals vere killed and the amount of
glycogen was determined in the liver preparations stained
by the (Best method). In the summer, the smallest
amount of glycogen was observed at 9 AM, and the biggest
amount - at 6 PM. The second rise was taking place at 3
AM. In the fall, the hi6hest amount was observed at 6
AM and 6 PM, the lowest at 9 AM and 9PI4.
