ABSTRACT: By launching the first S-)vi-et s,,)smic rocket towards the moon,
the first artificial planet was introduced into the solar
system. Since there is an intlez-sec,,ion of the earth's orbit
with that of the artificial planet, t-e two planets will
apf, roach each other every 5 years. Photograpl.ic methods are
applied for obnerva t4 on, especially astrographic telescopes.

ABSTRACT: Various machines for the consolidation of the ground were
tested in the Geotechnical Laboratory AzNIIGIM Commission
(Geotekhnicheskii Laboratoriya AzNIIGIM Komissiya) organised
by the Gosstroi SSSR. A description of the following
machines is given:
Consolidating Rollera-302. This consists of a large drum
with weights attached to lts,.perimeter. The roller was de-
signed by the Kremenchug factory of the Ministry for Build-
ing and Road-Building Machinery (Ministerstvo Stroitell-nogo
i Dorozhnogo Mashinostroeniya). It is attached to the trac-
tor C-80. Consolidation is achieved duxing the rotation of
the drum by freelyattached weights. The roller consolidates
undisturbed ground efficiently to a depth of 0.8-1 m. It is
also used for the consolidation of made-up ground, as am-
bankments, dgm and road embank s. Technical specifica-
tions are listed'(Table 1). The consolidation action is
113 producing a compressive effect of 170 kg/ad. The weight

of the roller is 1800 kg. The roller covers in one shift
30oo m3 of ground'. loo-4-1/16
Consolidati2aa "Plate,': Tr~-)-505A. This comprises a plate-
weight attached to t5 excavato_r__~)-505A. It is mamifaet-
ured by Kovrovsk Excavator Works of the Ministry for Build,
ing and Road-Building Machinery (Ministerstvo Stroitellnogo
i Dorozhnogo Mashinostroeniya). The machine is used for
disturbed and undisturbed ground and can be u *sed to a depth
of 1-1.2 m. The consolidating plate weighs 2.5 tons and is
attached along the arm of the crane. The consolldit,16= is
achieved by repeated free falls of the plate, the lifting
and shifting along the crane arm effected by the cT&ne
machinery. Technical data axe given in Table 2.
Consolidating Machine C-325 for Embankments. Constructed by
the same factory as the consolidating Rp- late". It is a
detachable part of the Excavator ~-505A. A pnemnatic
"hammer" with a double acticn. (CCCU-501) is used. Two com-
pressors, 6KC-61 are used. Technical data are given in
2/3 Table 3:. 1000-1200 m2 ground/shift can be covered with a
1000 mm wide "hammer".

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the ramming roller D-302, designed b.1, Engineer
Ye.G. Strigin is to pack earth in deep layers (the bottom
of main channels, water reservoir beds, etc) and the ground
used for the construction of dams and road beds. The tractor-
dravin ramming roller is equipped w ith 3 rammers which fall
from a h9ight of 1.56 m, 36 times per minute. The "settlinj.,"
of the packed surface caused by on e impact is 200 mm. Further
details are given in the article. The roller was tsted on

PERIODICAL: Tr. Kiyevsk. avtomob. -dor. in-ta, 1957, Nr 3, pp 117-120
ABSTRACT: An analytical solution is offered for the task of determining the
outflow rates relative to reservoir flood routing. Therein given
graphic or analytical functional relationships are assumed be-
tween the head acting on the structure and the outflow rates Q
and reservoir capacities W. The relationship between the inflow
into the reservoir and the time is also assumed to be known. In
the integration of the fundamental differential equation of the out-
flow rates the author assumes the magnitude of the derivative
dW/dQ to be approximately constant over a small interval of head
values acting on the structure. The linear first-order differential
equation thus obtained can be integrated for any generic law gov-
erning the inflow of the water into the reservoir. Relative to the
Card 1/2 aboveindicated assumption, the author refers to the analogous

Title :Anisotropic Scattering of Light and Orientation Order in Liquids
Orig Pub! Nauch, tr. Ukr. a.-kh. akad., 1956, 8, 421-424
Abstract. To elueidate the correlation between light scattering and molecular
structure of liquid, a study via made, by the method of cisual photo-
metry of the intensity of two polarized components of light scattered
by water, alcohols, parstfins, ketons, substances that crystallize
according to the cubic system (cyclohexane, cyclohexanol (I), canph-
ene (II), CC1.~), and d1halogen substituted benzenes (III). The results
show that in the case of liqaida of the same structural type the shape
of int-nsity curves of the scattered light is similar. Liquids ob-
tained from crystals having an isotropic disposition of molecules
j II), show weak anisotropic scattering, which increases with rising
temperature. Intensity of aaisotropic scattering by liquids obtained

by melting crystals having considerLble anisotropy (III), decreases
with rising temperature. Also studied were the binary liquid solutions:
chlorobenzene in bromobenzene and iodobenzene, cllorophorm in bromo-
pborm, acetic acid in water, butyric acid in water, phenol in water,
nitrobenzene in hexane, hexone in octane and p-dichlorobenze in p-
dibromobenzene. In cases involving complete molecular miscibility
the scattering is monotonously dependent upon concentration; If the
components are not molecularly miscible, a strongly manifested mLxi-
Tmim is observed. 1bus it was confirmed that change in intensity of
molecular light scattering, with change in temperature, is connected
with the orientation order that exists in the liquid.

TITLE: Light Scattering in Solutions Consisting of Components of Different
Molecular Structure
PERIODICAL: Nauchn. tr. Ukr. s.-kh. akad., 1957, Vol 9, pp 489-493
ABSTRACT: The concentration and temperature dependences of molecular scattering
were studied in the following nine binary solutions:
CA OH C6H6$ C4 H9OH C061 C2 H5OH - Ccl 4' C4 H9OH - CCl 49
C2H 5OH C4H9OH, C2H5OH C3H5(OH)3' C2H50H - C 3 H20 C4H9OH -
- C 3 H20 and C4H9OH - C 2H5 (OH) 3'
The measurements were carried out at temperatures of 20 50 and 75 C.
The scattered light was observed at an angle of 900 to the incident ray
through a polarization prism in its two different orientations. In one
orientation a fraction (6/13) of the anisotropic part of the molecular
scattering traversed the prism. In the other position the remaining
Card 1/2 fraction of anisotropic scattering was obtained, as well as Isotropic

scattering including density and concentration scattering (CS). The authors were
partIcularly interested in CS, which, in their opinion, can serve as a measure of the
Immiscibility of the solution components. The magnitude of CS was determined for the
series of solutions f rum the deviation of the concentration dependence of isotropic-
scattering intensity from a straight line. An estimate of CS was made for the above-
mentioned solutions. In particular, it was found that solutions of ethanol (1) in
bu'~anol (2) do not give rise to CS. On the other hand, CS is (oserved in solutions of
(1 ) and (2) in benzene and glycerine.
