ABSTRACT: The authors investigated experimentally the effect of hydrostatic pressu;1a
up to 16.5 katm on the effective mass mn of the electrons in InSb at 96K, with an ailm
at checking on the linear relation between these two quantities which follows from
Kane's theory. The experiment consisted of measuring the thermal emf and the Hall
constant in classically strong fields. The pressure was produced at nitrogen tempeiiL-
tures by a method proposed by re. S. Itskevich (PTE No. 4) 148, l963). The measure-
ments were made at temperature gradients 3 - 6 deg/cm on samples measuring 10 x 30 x 2
mm. Sampleavith two values of the electron density (2.21x 110-14 and 4.7 x 1023 exr-3)
were tested. It is concluded from the disparity between ihe theoretical and experi-
mental data tbwt_the inflaience of TWdrostatic pressure on the electron effective mass
cannot be explained within the f~rwaework of Kane's theory and that a quantitative

concentrates in the ration, on the individual milk yield,

after alkaline hydrolysis In the epidermis of rats. This Change was noted on the
3rd day and was still present on the 7th day. This sugge;sts that Irradiation Causes
structural changes in the disulphide groups of the epidermis. The examinations
also demonstrated that in alkaline hydrolysis the values obtained in normal and

terist*ice and application of silicon particle detectors are reviewed.
Detectors are being prepared in the author's laboratory from n-type,
high purity Si (with 1o-7 % impurity content). The p-n junction with
a low junction depth is formed as a p-type inversion coating on the
surface of the n-type 31; Electrical contacts are dade to a thin (100t,
9/cm2) gold layer deposited by evapoxation on the inversion coating
and to the reverse aide of the detector. The following main character-
istic8 are rev~ewied (on the basis of Hungarian experimental data)-. 1)
Reverse current. These currents are independent from the radiation, and
they are caused by the'voltage connected to the p-n junction.-The re-
verse current is proportional to-tbe square root of the voltage connec-
ted to the.detector. 2) Capacitance. It is proportional to the area of

ABSTRACT: On the basis of references in the literature the following subjects
were discussed: Manufacture of detectors with surface seal layer, diffusion
layer, and with lithium-ion drift; signal shape, seal layer thickness, return current#
resolving ability, signal development time, window thickness, background, and sensi-
tivity to external influences; applications in the spectrometry of alpha radiation,
spectrcuretery of charged particles in the study of nuclear reactions,, study of fis-
sioned particles, measurement of gamma radiation, and measurement of neutrons. The
electronic devices employed in conjunction with the semiconductor detectors will be
