Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] The authors have analyzed a five-
year material (1955-59) of 4615 accident cases of children. They conclude
that the number of accidents increases steadily. Burns, poi5oningand traffic
accidents amount to one-fourth of the total number. Attention is called to
accidents occ,,rrino in the home because of their great frequency. Almost
half of the accidents occurred between June and September. Some cases did
not get immediate treatment by specialists. The distribution of the accidents,
Zkccording to sex, age and diagnosis is also evaluated. The possibilities of
prevention are discussedand certain measures recommended. 22 Eastern Euro-
pean, 15 Western references.

From personal investigations It is concluded that in healthy subjects the absorp-
tion of Fe Is greatly dependent an age. Fe administered orally to young persons is
well absorbed, but the absorption capacity decreases progressively with age, only
a very small amount being absorbed by octogenarians. In women the Fe absorption
is higher up to the climacterium but after this it decreases rather more than In
men. The effect of Fe administration depends on the dose. With a large dose the
absorption curve of the serum Fe Is higher than with small doses. With a suffici.
ently large dose it is even posiAble - in men at least - to demonstrate an appreci.
able absorption in persons over 80 yr. It is concluded that 'ferroplex' (composition
not stated) is a satisfactorily absorhable Fe preparation. It is pointed out that oral
administration of Fe is an irstructive method for the study of Fe metabolism in re-

kBSTRACT: The contact angle 9 of nickel on sintered samples with compositions TiC-VC
,3nd TiC-ZrC was determined by the lying-drop method at 5 x 10-5 mm H9, the electric
resistivity p at 290K was determined by the eddy-current method, and the hardness was
ilso determined. In the composition range 60 - 90 mol.% VC the value of 0 for TiC-VC
is 0 rad, i.e., these alloys are completely wetted by the nickel. A maximum p > 250
iohm-cm is observed at a VC content of 75 mol.%- In the TiC-ZrC system, the plots of
a vs. composition and of 0 Ys. composition have a character similar to the TiC-VC al-
loys. Me minimum values of 0, and accordingly the maximum values of p, are observed
in alloys with 40 - 6o mol.% ZrC. The wetting by nickel of isomorphous carbides with
cubic lattice of metals of groups IV - Timpraves with increasing p and with decreas-
ing radius of the metallic atom. Ite value of 0 decreases linearly to zero with de-
creasing free energy of carbide production. As the free energy of carbide production

increases on going from VC to ZrC in the VC NbC - TiC - ZrC series.. p decreases

TITLE: The article deals with the traces left by the
dressin- tool on the work surface of ~-rinding
wheels,, and so causin. traces on the surface of the
ground work. It was revealed in a study carried out
by EYUMS in 19,1-4 and previously describ~6d ('"Stanki i
instrumenV~ Nr 6, 1954~ by L.I. Zalkind) that it is
possible to obtain a high finish of surfaces by
dressing the grindinG wheel with dressin- tool feed
of 0.01 to 0.03 mm per revolution of the grinding
wheel, when the fead per wheel revolution isconsider-
ably shorter than one L;rain and therefore the traces

on the ground work surface are determined by the
traces of wheel material grains broken by the
dressing tool. It was proven in experiments that ares-
sing with very fine feed results in surface fin:.sh
class 1110" and hiGher in GrindinG. with medium-.grain
wheels. It was also found that the expensive and scarre
dressing diamonds can be replaced by othei dressing
materials in the case of hi~~h-speed grindinG (wheel
surface velocity over r-0 meter/sec.). The article in-
cludes the results of experiments carried out with
dressing diamonds,, solid hard-alloy di-sks; olJsks made
of hard alloy Crain material,, of thermocor'unaum, ' and
of black carborundum, and with the use of a Linnik
double microscope for the measurements of the surface
roughness obtained (shown in table). It is mentioned

TM-: The authors present the results of investigating the effect of grind-
ing.condition.factors on the state of the surface layer during external cylirdric-:1
grinding at high speeds of components. The tests were carried cut with haz-deneed
45 and 40 X (40Kh) grade steel specimens.at wheel speeds in the i-ange of 44 -
50 n/sec, transyerse feed per one double stroke 0.005 - 0.03 -=/min and a com,10-
nent speed of 63 - 110' m1min. During the high-s~eed grinding using high peeri-
pheral velocities of the component, no marked effect was show-i of the grinding
conditions on the magnitude and sign of residual stresses, mi-t-rohardmess and
changes in the microstructure of the machined surface. During high-speed grind-
ing, tensile stresses are originating in the surface layer. It was found that

the use of this grinding method considerably increases the efficiency of the
process without deteriorating the surface finish of the ground parts. There are

In this paper a device for the control of the level of boiling metal
in the ladle is recommended. It consists of a tube made of refrac-
tory material, which is vertically introduced and fastened to the
ladle. The lower end of the tube is located in a short distance from
the bottom of the ladle, and its upper end is bent outwards beyond
the edge of the ladle, where it is connected to a draft- and blast
pressure manometer (tyagonaporomer). The molten metal penetrates in-
to the tube until its level is equal to that in the ladle. Every
change of level of the liquid metal in the ladle causes a change of
pressure in the tube, which is indicated by the manometer. ffith an
automatic removal of the cast metal from the ladle, the process of
floyring off can be oontrilled and any disturbance can be detected.
The same device can also be used for filling the molds, and the
entire process oan be observea. There is I figure.

ABSTRACT: For the modernization of casting processes, knee-shaped
braking casting systems with hydraulic stops in the slag
removers and feeders are recommended. The knee-shaped sy-
stems reduce the casting speed. The small feeders still
further reduce the speed. Rejects form a large per-.entage
of the total production (See Table). The hydraulic stops
in the feeders, together.with the hydraulic stops in the
slag removers, have given good resi:lts in operation- The
influence of the minimal and maximal cross section o'P the
feeders is shown in Figure 5. A braking system with 4 re-
sistance elements and 2 hydraulic stops retains all non-
