Zhelezobeton 1958. i.r 8 286-291 (USSR) ABSTRACT- The u;1e of' pre-cast pre-stressed reinforced concrete for bridge --onstructions in the USSR ~~om enced in lq48-1949. Figulle 1 illustrates the first Lridge by Lhis metbod. Bridges construc-ted 1,riar to 1-48 were mainly of beam constructions ' or concrete bridges with post- tensionin6 using the ieinfor~JnE, elements system of A.P. Korovkin. Pre-stressed reini,-,rced concrete multi-beam road bridges constructed in the USSR have BDans ur to 42 m and mu.1ti-beam conscile-type bridges up to '~3 jL; at the present time, bridges built witL 'he latter construction have spans of 84 m. All the-Ee bridges are desiFned for I traffi,:; of' veh-1--les of -.i-n -~(.: 30 tons and single heavy of up to 60 ca- 80 tons,. These staniard brlidw.~,, se~.ti~)ns could be used for bridges of various widths from E_~ - 2i~1.5 m-, Plans for bridges of this type were worked out by Engineer Bakit'ko. Construction of pre,-cast m-.1t:-beam :~on5ole type bridge from pre...stressed reinforced con-,,rete is shown in Figure 8. The `.rane-4rame" is a steel truss construction consisting 'I of two spans which assist d ri the assembly cf these Card2/4 Pre.-cast bridge units (Figure n9~. The following two new Building Pro-cast Pre-Btressed Reinforced Concrete Road Bridges in USSR methods were developed: in the first, reinforcing elements are situated in open channels which are finally filled. with concrete and the second envisages considerable use of stand method of production of bridge beams. In this latter method,, the tensioning of reinforcement is carried out before casting of the concrete. The construction with the reinforcement in open channels is used f(.,r aquaducts and trestles in Moscow, Figure 10 Illustrates such a construction from pre-cast, pre-8tressed reinforced concrete 1.25 m. hiFh, spanning 22.2 m. These beame weigh 36 tons. The constructlon of this bridge was designed by Candidate of Te-.Ij~iical Sciences L.A. Kalash- nalcov, who received an award for tLis in 1956. At present, the stand method of Production of bz-,idge units is being, developed. These constructions ha,,~e sizeable batch reinforcement and are fixeld by concrete anchors, type 1411T. The most effc-ctdve constructilons of multi- span pre-cast reinforced bridges are those-having simiiar moments. Coji~;tru~~tic-i. cf s~ic.1- a bridge spanning 33 m vras designed by EnFjneer A. Ya. To this and 76 rabbits were irradiated by means of a Medicor TEX-250 source with, 150 and 600 r. It was found that the sranulocytosix is preceded by a signifi- cant granulopenia of short durationp beginning 5-15 minutes after irradiationj with 150 r granulocytosis starts one hour after irradiatioup with 600 r after two I- hours. The change of granulocyte- and thromobooyto count is shown on Figs. la L 187"-63 ACCESSION MR: AP3005988 and lc of Enclosure 1. The animals were bled to death at the lowest point of the granulopenis (about ten minutes after irradiation), and the plaama was injected into normal animals, causing an immediate significant granulopenia of abort du- ration followed by granulocytosis lasting several hours. The same plasma produces thrombopenia of several hours' duration. All the aforementioned effects may be brought about by the administration of a 0.1% starch solution. As a result of these findings the hypothesis is put forward that the leucopeniogenic agent: pre- .sent in the plasma after irradiation is not a toxin but a substance which forms also as a result of various physlological stimuli.
