Observations were made on 80 thyrotoxic patients treated with inorganic iodine.
Temporary improvement was noted in 24 patients; there was no effect in 45; and
in the remaining 11 patients, suffering mainly from severe and moderately iievere
forms of thyrotoxicosis, administration of iodine caused a sharp worseniilg of the
clinical picture. The author observed also 95 thyrotoxic patients, 53 of whom were
treated with 6-methylthiouracil after a previous treatinent with iodine; and 42
patients were treated with iodine and 6-meth),Ithiouracil simultaneously. Iodine
markedly decreased the therapeutic action of 6-methylthiouracil, -,Ind. in addition,
it did not prevent the goitre-producing activity of the latter preparation.

pump design. The aim is to find the optimum channel dimensions for thc liquid me-tall
7-r-ansfer, the electromagnetic loads and the optimur. liquid metal velocities maxijai-
zing the efficiency coefficient. Fig. 1 shows the active, stray and wall currents wid
the active and stray magnetic fields of the direct current pump. It-'. equivalent --ir-
quit diagram is shown in Fig. 2. Fxpressions for pump efficiency find for the mutual
dependence- of various design parameters have been developed. lYrocedures for pump de-
sign optimization on a rational basis are proposed. The design computittions in mccor..
dance with the suggested procedures have been shown by tests lo differ less than 10%.
