tering cross section is assumed to hare, two kinds of sin,~ular-
ities: a) singularities connected with the "isobaric" state,
e.E. T,++ "isobars" (T = 3/2, 1 - 3/2); the S-matrix has a
pole in the complex plane, the cross section curve has the
known resonance shape; b) the production threshold of a new
particle e.g. A- + p4 y 0 + nj (occurrence of a branching point

gated, three kinds of discontinuities occur: "ateps", 11 dips",
and "peaks". The latter have a smaller iridth (order of magrii-
tude 10 - 20 blev) and a small probability, so that the observed
maxima with T . 1/2 at pion energies of 680 - 1,?40 Mev (accord-
ing to D. Frish) were connected with a Y0-production (30-mass
1200 and 1520 m e ). Another possibility of distinguishing be-
tween resonance- and threshold singularities is based on a com-
pariaon between interactions in systems with different isotopic
spin but with the same energies. An investislation of the magni-
tude of singularity makes it possible to estimate the upper
limit of the possible production cross section of the yO-meson.
The following holds:

E = threshold energy, elastic crosa section. It further
