for manufacturing chemical equipinE~nt. They can be
made from a single type of polymer or from a

their molecular weight is either too s--lall or too

possibly be used for (-xtrusion an,J injection.
Industrial equipment has been successfully tested

Fluidized Bed
PERIODICAL: Revista de Chimie, 1960, Vol- 11, No. 11, up. 653 - 657
TEXT: Subject article deals with the prote~_,tion of' r.eta.L surfaces against.
corrosion by coating them with a thin plastic layer. Polyetl~ane pro,led to be high-
ly resistant against various corroding agents. The best way of application iz 'the
sintering of polyethane powder in fluidized bed. This metlict! cons-ists in im:-nersing
the preheated metal part in the fluidized polyetharie powder, remcvlrZ the excess
powder, and finally applying thermal treatment to obtain a uriilformn distribution of,
the polyethane coating. Experiments have been conducted in order -,o produce a pro-
tective coating of a low-pressure Rumanian polyethane. The trietal parts have been
preheated to 250oC, 2800C and 3000C. Non-preheated air has been used as fluidizing
agent. Preheated air of 900C did riot supply better results. The Irmersion tirne
ranged between 3 - 10 sec. The temperature of the thermal treatment nerformed in
order to obtain a uniform distribution was kept 20 - 30'C beLow t'he

temperature, the treatment itself lasted for 1 - 3 min. The fl11idiZii,,V vessel con-
sisted of a cylindrical container, 200 mm high, 100 rnm in diame-:.er. having at the
bottom a glass plate with pores 50,U in diameter each. 'Phis p13:-,e serves for ~he
dispersion of the fluidizing agent in the polyerhane bed. Ilit? air Inlet noz Z le
between the bottom and the glass plate had a diameter of 12 mm. The powder has
been fluidized with compressed air and the thermal treatment has been accomplished
In a common laboratory drier with automatic temperature control. The pclyethane
had a fluidity index of 0.6 - 0.7 g/10 min and particles rangfntr betvreen 0.07 and
0.1 mm. Before being used, the polyethane powder had been drLed for 24 hrs at
600C. The parts were made of 0.5 - 3 mm soft sheet metal. 7ney have been degreas-
ed in a 1-1 toluene-acetone mixture and pickled in a 504 suID-huric acid solution.
In order to establish the best operation, several preliminary e)-.perf_m-.-.nt5 have been
conducted. The preheating temperaturo ha~3 a (1troot ef'rect on the Oil,'.!kneLm, of t,~m

ABSTRACT: It was determined that the index of fusion in a di~aat and easy guide in
evaluating the possibility.of proceeding p6lycarbonatea. 'Po*lVaers vith an'index
between 0.8 and 3 gm/10 min. 'can be processed uzider normal conditions, i.e. ex-

with difficulty, if at all. If the index is higher than 3, aao material is too
brittle. However, polymers of extreme fusion indexes can b3 mixed to &Lw an

Describes semiautomatic gas cutting machine for mass
production of pipes in ship-building indiistry. 211a-
chine is designed to cut flanEeL5 of 50-600 rnm diame-
ter from steel 10-30 mm thick. One advantage is
possibility of cutting flanges at very edge of metal
sheet, bringing waste to minimum. Productivity is
85 pieces for 8 hours. Operation of four machines
for 1-1 years demonstrated dependability.
