In man as well as in animals, an increased permeability of the haemato-encephalic %arrier occurs, along with a rise of acetylcholine content in the CSF, and an increase in hyaluronidase activity. Treatment, therefore. is directed towards normalization of the barrier and the acetylcholine exchange. From the cases under consideration, 36. or 2.3%. showed a haematoma, 12 of which were located Intracerebrally. Out of 96 deaths. 84, or 87.5%. occurred in the first 2 days. Moscow. - BRUX. - MED. 1957, 37/6 (21,7-225) The author starts with a historical survey of the development in knowledge on the Russian spring-summer enceph4litip, a virus disease transmitted to man by ticks of the fype Nodes per'sulcatus. 'The differences between the course of the disease observed in the eastern and western parts of1he country and the possible relation- ship with louping-ill rh sheep and with abortive cases of poliomyelitis are discuss- ed. In the western part of the country ticks of the type Nodes ricinus predominate. This is.the tick that transmits louping-111. An extensive description is given or the clinical ptcture, the pathological anatomy,'the therapy, and the fight against the disease. Kunst Utrecht (IV, 17*) GRAMUNICOV WASISHCOV.
