For this purpose, measurements of the Salvanomagnetic effect AR/R, the
resistance R, the temperature T, and the uniform p7essure r were carried
out as described by N. P. Grashdankina, L. G. Gayclukov, K. P. Rodion6v
(7-h6TFt 40t 433, 1961). T 11 was determined via measurement of R(T) at
1 kg/cm2, 4600 kg/CM 2 and at 8850 k9/cm 2 and Rp/Ro as a function of P at

temperature 7.6-10 kg/cm For TN the values 364.6 K at atmoopheric
pressure, 3680K at WO k9/cm 2, and 370 70K at 8850 kg/cm2 were obtained.
Prom these data dT./dP - (0.68 t 0.05)-;o _3 dog cm2 /kg followed.
Measurements of th e transverse galvanoma6netic effect 3R,/R and of the
specific magnetization t:r as functions of H aLt room temperature and
atmospheric presaure gave similar curves. For 6000'~ H ii.16000 oe
increased rapidly and R decreased with growing 11; for H ~ 8000 oe rr.-H and
AR/R - 0, and for H >17000 oe tv and 6R/R tend to saturation. From this
it could be concluded that between 8000 and 17000 00 t 'he helicoidal
antiferromagnatism is destroyed 3nd ferromagnetic-ordering of the spins
takes place; Etho 8000 oe. Measurements of AR/R - f(11) at room temperature
and the pressures: atmospheric, 2600, 5400, 7025, 8850, and 10800 kg/CM2
were carried out. Ht decrea es linearly with increasing Pi
d11th/dP = - 0..67 t 0.87 oe-cm /ke . Observed deviations of T N and Ifr
can be explained by structural effects. There are 5 figures.

ABSTRACT; The author has determined the Curie_point/of CrTe at pressures up to
104 kg/cm3 and has investigated the Curio points and other proportles at atmospheric
pressure of solid solutions in which some of the To atoms in CrTe were replaced by
S, Se, or Sb. The work reported here is a continuation of earlier work of the author;,
and others (Zhur. eksperim. I teor. fiz., 40, 433 (1961)), which was undertaken in
attempt to distinguish between the effect on spin ordering of changes In the unit coil
volume and changes in the atomic ambiance. The experimental tochniqup Is described
In the earlier paper. The pressure dependence of the Curie point of CrTe was do-

termined by three methods; from the break in the curve giving the temperature depen-
dence of the electric conductivity; from the maximum of the galvanomagnetic effect;
and by the It thermodynamic coefficient!Itechnique discussed by K.P.Belov (Uspokbi
fiz. nauk, 65, 207 (1958)), The rate of change of the Curio temperature Tc of CrTe
with changing volume V of the unit cell due to changing hydrostatic pressure was found
to be dTc/dV = 3.2 x 1024 deg/cn3. Substitution of a fraction of the To atoms In the
lattice by So or Sb also led to a decrease of the unit cell volume V, an well an to
changes in other properties of the material, in particular, of the electric conduc-
tivity. The value of dTc/dV, however, was found to be very nearly the same, whether
the change in Y was due to substitution of To by So or Sb, or to hydrostatic pressuree

of manganese arsenide, which apparently possesses antiferromagnetic ordering
at low temperatures. The Neel temperature of the MnAs high pressure phase

ABSTRACT: The authors give a detailed report on experiments made in
a concentration mill of the Mine Administration imeni Vo-
roshilov of the Nikopoll-Marganets Trust, where manganese
ores and manganese slime were concentrated on a special ex-
perimental assembly. The manganese ore was concentrated in
heavy suspension and the ground ferrosilicon was used as
weiphing compound (fig. 2). This compound was in lateY ex-
periments replaced by cinder, but the results of concentra-
tion were almost identical in both cases (tables 1-11). In
the experiment with the flotation of manganese slime, a mix-
ture of sodium carbonate (2-5-3 kg/ton), sulfate soap

used as a flotation rearent. The scheme of concentration
process is given in fig. 4, and the results of flotation -
in tables 11-16. The results of both experiments showed
the necessity of further improvement and simplification
of concentration and flotation processes, though the re-
sults already obtained are satisfactory. In connection with
these experiments the following scientists are cited by the
authors: Z.S. Bogdanova, O.P. Bondarenko; and D.I. Frantsu-
ZOV. Thpre are 16 tables, 5 schemes and 2 Soviet references.

TEXT: On the basis of a general analysis of electric arc furnace develop-
m-,nt, the importance of their automatic control is illustrated. The capacity of
,,he latest steelmelting electric-are furnaces attains 200 tons at 7.3 m internal
diameter of the shell, 44 Mvamp transformer power and 609 mm electrode diameter.
Characteristic features of the d-c and a-c electric arc are described, and cal-
culazions are presented on the effect of automatic control upon an increase in
efficiency, uniform electric power consumption in electric are furnaces, and the
stability of the whole melting process. A comparison is made of three automatic
control systems: i.e. systems based on constant consumed power, constant voltage
