Abstract In conditions of denervation or removal of the carotid
sinuses after a depressor neurotony in rabbits (43), an
increase was noted of blood pressure.. a decrease of Hb and
of the number of orythrocyted (E) with a simltancous reti-
culocytosis. The normalization of the blood composition
occured in 1-It months. In separate CaBeS polyalobulia
appeared after the anemic stages No regular connections
were noted between the changes of the blood picture and.the

pp. 648 - 650
TEXT: The authors attempted to find out whether the electron properties
of a semiconductor catalyst undergo any changes during reaction proo-
eases. The study was. conducted on the catalysis of CO oxidation by means
of Mn02- A continuous-operation apparatus via used for the purpose. The
resulting 002 was frozen out, and the electrical conductivity of Xn02
was measured during the process of catalysis. The measurement of the
Hall effect and thermo-emf made by T. I. Kolomenskaya at the Fizicheskiy
institut AN SSSR (inatitute.of Phyni6s of the AS USSR) showed that Mn02
is an n-type semiconductor. Two stages were distin=gu shed In th,7 training
of the catalyst. The catalytic activity is low at the beginning, but

ABSTRACT. A study was done on the electrothermomechanical (etmo) processing of steel
wires. Micrographs of etmo wires after tempering showed oriented carbides in the work-
ing direction while the deformed austenite exhibited fragmented grains with an orient
substructure characteristic of polygonized metals. For 1 mm di-ameter wires, stren'gth~l
levels as high as 260 kg/mm2 were obtained after etmo, with reductions in areT-oT-w to
SO%. Mechanical properties are given as a function of tempering temperature (from 300
to 6000C) for different thernomechanical treatments and etmo. In no case did the am 6nt
of compressive deformation imparted by working exceed 35%. During etmo, the wire s ere
heated 500/sec by roller contacts operating from an ac transformer at 60 kv, drawnlinto
wire, spray quenched and subsequently eleetrotempered. The strength of etmo 'Wiiii was

about /nigher tha to the s
pression of botH-Varbide coagulation and recrystallization. Also, a beneficial struc-I
ture orientation\resulted as evidenced by x-ray patterns. Because -the rapid heating
maintains more carbon in solid solution, the width of the (110) and (220) lines was
greater than for ordinary quench and temper treatments. Since tempering at 5000C de-
creased the strength from 240 to 170 kg/MM2, the effects of cold working by drawing
were examined as a means of obtaining better mechanical properties. With 75% deforma-
tion the yield stress rose to 240 kg/mm2 with a reduction in area of 28 to 32%. Orig.

ABSTRACT: As a result of the analysis of caprOne %b resin (determination of the content
of low-molecular compounds, viscosity of the solution and the melt), which
has been obtained in the continuous polymerization of E -caprolactain in
direct-flow (of the VK-pipe type) and in three-type (of the U-pipe type)
apparatuses at 2500C in the presence of AG salt of 3 - 5% of the monomer
weight, it has been found that a polymer with uniform physical-uthemical.
properties is obtained only in apparatuses of the U-pipe type. The method
of continuous polymerization of.caprolactam in this apparatus can be recom-
mended for the industrial manufacture of caprone resin.
