Abstract: Experiments were conducted in 1947-1955 at the
Experimental Station of Fruit Growing AS Georgian
SM in an apple ordbard, planteawith biennials

variants won established. In connection with the
lack of vVeCipitation in the conditions of eastern
Georgia (Gori rayon), experiments with perennial
grammes van established with muldhes and without
mIches. Each variant bad 3 repetiticvA in 24
trees. Considered were the growth of brunches
and thickness of trunkp leaf surface, general
dimen ion of the tree, harvest and its quality,,
cherdeal cacposition and durability of fruit,
development of root system, content in soil of
moisture and. nitrates, structure and acgregate
corposition of soil. Average wuml growth of
branches on plots with perennial grasses was
twice less than in variants with leg=s, black
