TITLEt The Structure of the B99 Nuclaut PERIODICALt Zhurnal *ksporisentallnoy i tooretichoskoy fisiki, 1960, Vol. 38, No. 3, PP- 937-941 TEXTs Investigations conducted by other authors seem to indicate that the proved B09 nucleus consists of two alpha particles and one neutron. Suh h that the binding energy of the Apartiole in the hypernuole" A can be made to agree with experiments only if one assumes that this particle moves in the field of the two alpha particles. Similarly, one may assume for the ordinary Be9 nucleus that the neutron moves in the field of the two alpha particles. In the article under review, the authors want to find out whether such a system is stable, and how the energy spectrum of the nucleus can be interpreted with the help of this model. The Hamiltonian on which investigations are based reades R a 'a FOL) u Card 1/3 Th.a Structure of the Be9 Nucleus 82)425 3/056j6O/O38/03/26/033 B006/3014 "'/2 1) + V,,,,,(u) + C,,C,(u) I 'U denotes (A'/2?)A9 + + the radius vector of the alpha particles, 9 is the radius vector of the neutron with respect to the center of mass of the two alpha particles, V ACC and Vt,, are the possible energies of the noL- and/or =-interaction, C.,.c is the possible energy of the Couloob interaction A.6- 21, pm 6X/9' V is the nucleon mass. The energy levels of the Bs9 nucleus are computed by considering the vibrations along the axis of symmetry and around the center of mass of the two l ha, tioles. In a table, the excitation energies co5puted from .ul: (.5ar for are compared with experimental data (Refs- 70 3 . Agreement is satisfactory. Levels with 9*3P 12-49 14-19 and 15-5 Novi which so far have not been found experimentally, are obtained theoretically. Their existence appears plausible. On the other hand, two very close levels 17.27 and 17-47 Wev#were found experimentally, to which only one theoretical (rotational) level with 17.2 Noy corresponds. Either tbere is re3lly only one or there occurs a level oplitting,whi2h in not covered by (8 . From the results it may be concluded that al Bey levels consist of Card 2/3 X SOKOLOVSKIT.
