.i'2BSTRACT: In the present paper the synthesis of the thiacyanines con-
taining unsaturated radicals (styryl , p.-methoxystyryl and
a-thienylvinyl) in the 6,61-positions of benzthiazole is
mentioned. It was assumed that the introduction of unsaturat-
ed radicals into the benzthiazole nuclei of the dye would
lengthen the chromophore and deepen the color of the thia-
carbocyanine. Cyanine dyes of such a type have hitherto been
unknown. The initial bases were synthe'sized according to
Meerwein (11serveyn) by conversion of the diazotized 2-methyl-
-6-aminobenzthiazole with unsaturated acids, Heterocyclic

saturated compounds. The authors p.~imarily used an amine of
the series of benzthiazole, viz. the 2-methyl-.6-aminobenz-
thiazole. In the conversion of this diazotized compound with
oinnamic-, p-mothoxycinnamic.- and a thienylacrylic acid ac-
cording to Meerweiri (Ref 1) three new bases of the 2-methyl-
benzthiazole derivatives were obtained which contain the un-
saturated substituents in position 6. The synthesis of the
2-methyl-6-styrenebenzthiazole illustrates the mentioned
scheme. In Table 1 the new synthasized bases are mentioned.
The three new synthesized bases are: 2-methyl-6-styrylbenz-
thiazolev 2-methyl-6-.(p-methoxystyrene)-benzthiazole and
2-mothyl-6-(a-thienylvinyl)-.benzthiazole. From these bases
and the ethyl aster of the p-toluene-oulfo acid quaternary
salts with unsaturated substituents in the position 6 of
benzthiaZDle were obtained. The introduction of unsaturated
substituents into the position 6 of the molecule of the cya-
nine dye abruptly shifts the absorption maximum into the
spectral range of long waves. There are 4 tables and 17 ref-

Tho authors obtained the following aliphatic-aromatic diamines by means
of a hydrolytic cleavage of the condensation productst p-xylyiene diam`ne,

4:4 -Di-- aminomethyl)-diphenyl methane, and Di.-(aminomethyl)-naphthale-.ie.
ThE diamines were identified in the form of picrates and diacetyl der.4vat-
ives. The results are shown in Tables 3 and 4. The diamine structure was
prcved--by oxidizing them into the corresponding dioarboxylic acids and
by identifying their dimethyl esters. Table 5 shf--)ws the melting points Nf

nical conditions. When both solutions are technically
adaptable, the choice must be made by comparing both var-
iants from tne point of view of economic expediency. It

length of blast holes in the fan-like and parallel layouts.
This difference depends mainly on the distance between the
ends of the fan-like arranged blast holes. According to
the author the best fan-shaped layout is obtained, when the
