TITLE-. Vertical talce-off and landing aircraft
PE1110DICAL: Technika lotnicza, no. 2, 1962, 53
T&XT~ This is a short description of the Polish Patent No. 40208,
Class 62 b, 37/01, October 31, 1957, relating to the invention of an
aircraft of a bi-plane type with two propellers mounted axially in cy-
lindrical ring tunnels which can swivel to enable vertical take-off and
landing, or be used for horizontal flights. Two figures show the diff-
erent arrangements. The propellers are driven by the bevel gears trans-
mission from an engine mounted in the fuselage. There are _2 figures.

Cartinarius (Dermorvbe) orellanus Fr. ~ a species of mushroom, caused ill .1
very small area, 132 cases of poisoning In humans, between 1952 and 1957, 19
cases proving fatal. The incubation period was very long. lasting from 3 to 14
days. The clinical picture was dominated by enteric disturbances; in severe cases
the outstanding symptoms were: changes in the kidneys inducing oliguria, albumill-
urin, increase of residual nitrogen and urea in the blood leading to urnemia
which was the main cause of death. Post-mortem examinations showed mainly
toxic nephrosis gravis or interstitial nephritis. The diagnosis was difficult because
of the very long incubation period of the disease and the histological picture. until
now not described in mushroom poisoning. Accurate field observations together
with experimental work on animals (cats and rabbits) proved that Cortinarius
orellanus was indeed the cause of the toxic manifestations. This species of
mushroom has never been described in the literature as poisonous and, on the
contrary. has been considered by a number of mycologists as an edible
variety.

,Of 3,033 cages of food poisoning in Poxnaii district, 319 were registered at; mush-
room poisoning. In 32 of 68 fatal cases, this was the cause of death. The most
common and dangerous poisoning was that with Amanita phalloides: 22 of 51 cases
proved fatal. Next in turn was Gyromitra esculenta (45 cases, 2 fatal). Dermo-
cybe orellana was also dangerous (20 cases, 4 fatal). The considerable number of
poisonings caused by Paxillus involutus in striking (39 cases in 5 yr., one of which
was total). Most cases of poisoning were due to errors mad* in gathering mush-
roome for private use. Thor* were many more cases of mushroom poisoning among
inhabitants of cities than among those living in rural areas.

TEXT: The mastication process of KER S 3012 rubber is studied in order
to select the optimum plasticity and rate of mastication .A-nd to find the
optimun physico-mechanical properties of the ribber. -The'kinetics of
heat softening depend on the initial plasticity. Mastic#tion is quickest
with a Defo plasticity of -1400. After such rubber has~,been kept in
store for 2-3 months the sheets stick together. Increasing the amount of
talc used for powdering does not prevent this. The lowertlimit for
absence of sticking is a Defc, plasticity of 1800. Men KER S 3012 i's
masticated it retains its elastic properties even with relatively low
plasticity; but too severemastication is not desirable and losses of
elasticity increase when a product showing high initial plasticity is

masticated. Through some reduction in the content of phenyl-p-naphthyl-
amine in the rubber (bringing it down to 2-3','~j) the mastication process can
be accelerated by 5VI,. Blends of KER S 3012 rubber are easily prepared,
the sheeting clings well to the rollsp the rubber mixes well with all the
components. libstracter's note: Complete translation.1
