Abstract In general outlines, the author describes the operatina
principle, construction, characteristics, and application
of measurement vacuum thermocouples of the Peoples Enter-
prise ZPA (Czechoslovakia). The criterion of the quality
of the thermocouple is proposed to be the ratio of the
thermal emf produced by the thermocouple to the square
of the current flowing throu&h the load. It is indica-
ted that in the case of precision 'work with such ther-ino-
couples, it is necessary to take into account the depen-
dence of the thermal emf on the temperature.

TEXT: The torch for resistance spot-welding assures a concentration of heat
at;. the welding spot; this is particularly important in the welding of plates.
Heat concentration is produced by mechanically clamping the parts to be welded
by.a mandrel-type clamping device, concentric to the upper electrode, and by the
pas~sage of welding current through the electrodes. A capacitor or a battery is
used as a power source.

ABSrRACT: A ferrite memory unit In described which was designed as a component part
of the AMG-1 computer. The bases of the logical memory unit were determined in
stricter harmony with the internal organization of the computer than is the case in
many other computers in accordance with which the memory storage capacity was fixed
at 48 bits per 400 words. The ANC-1 computer is the administrative computer deBigned
and built at the Department of the Design of Mathematical Machines of the Warsaw
Polytechnical Institute. Thanks to the series-parallel node of operation and to the
four access channels, proposed by Dr. K. Bienkowski, better operation with a digital
computer is assured than when using the typical parallel connected memory, and elec-
tronic memory storage systems have been simplified. The memory unit described is

TEXT: This paper was presented on October 19, 1961 at a meeting
of the Komisja Matematyczno-Przyrodnicza PTPN (Mathematical and
Scientific Committee, PTPN)o The dielectric srturation of benzene,
nitrobenzene, o-nitroaniaol and 1,2-dibrombmethane was measured at
room temperature in fields up to 70 kV/cm. The saturation was dedu-
ced by measuring the change in capacitance due to application of a
strong field. The measurements were carried out using the beat me-
thod with an oscillograph detector (A. Chelkowski, Acta Phys. Pol.,
in press). The measiving capacitor was placed in a pressure vessel
and up to 700 atm. viere applied to it. The liquids were purified
before tests by double or triple distillation, followed, in the

with pressure. For 1,2-dibromomethane it was positive and decreased
as pressure increased. The results are interpreted in terms of

TEXT: The author describes experimental work on constructing relief ma;a
in Poland, The making of such maps became possible after mastering the process
of preparing thermoplastic sheets. The first relief map on the 1!5,000 scale
was made by the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography in 1958. The aecond experi-
ment of corittructing the physical map of Poland on the 1,-2,000,000 scale was less
successful. Specific difficulties of constructing relief maps for the territory
of Poland, 4/5 of whose area is a plain, are noted.
