Title Upon the Purification of Sulfate Turpentine in People's
Reptblic of Rilmnia.

Abstract Raw sulfate turpentine (ST) was treated with sodium
hypochlorite solution containing 12.5% of active chlo-
rine in order to destroy the disagreable odor and to
prepare ST suitable for organic synthesis. The desagree-
able odor dissapears at such a treatment in the result
of the oxidation of sulfite compounds and their conver-
sion into sulfons and sulfo acids* The ST properties
before purification: appearance - transparent fluid,

Spectrographic determination of welding arc temperature

TEXT: Welding-arc temperature in dependence on current was measured using-
a Zeiss Q 24 quartz-type spectrograph. Measurements with nonmelting electrodes
of various diameters showed a steep initial temperature rise with increasing cur-
rent density up to 150 A, and then remained nearly constant for the rest of the
test current range of 250 A, eventually reaching a value of about 61000K which is
in good agreement with results obtained by other methods. Similar measurements
with several commercial., coated-clectrode types produced less consistentspectro-
.-rams due to material transfer, displacement of the arc column, and shorts
during the exposures. Mean temperature values, as detemined front at least five
spectrograms for each electrode type, ranged from 5400 to 60400K, depending on
the coating thickness and composition. Attempts to apply the method to CO
shielded arcs were unsuccessful due to insurmountable experimental difficui-ties.

Measurements of argon-shielded arc temperatures (using copper spectral lines for
determination) yielded a value of 51506K. This is in C, good agreement with the
value determined with the same method by G.M. Gordon, O.A. Cotter and E.R. Parker

but is in strong disagreement with results obtained by other methods. A photo-
erraphic method of temperature determination proved successful in the case of
argon-plasma stream, but failed in the case of argon-shielded arcs., There are

ABSTRACT: The author discusses the results of a graphical analysis of the properties of a
neuron on the basis of assumptions concerning neuron activities. Conclusions are derived con-
cernin-- the relationship between the input and output signals on the basis of the fact that the
frequency of the input signal of a neuron is synchronized with the frequency of the output signal.
The entire process is simulated in an electronid model. There are many gaps at present In the
knowledge of the properties of a neuron because of the enormous complexity of the nervous sys-
